I perhaps got too into it with my own spoken word piece. I like it anyways. (That pork knee was genuinely the first result on Pixabay when I looked up “scraped knee”)

The audio track works well with the theme of the video and helps establish the physical setting of the piece. The references to injury and the need for first aid create a vivid sense of vulnerability and make the presence of concrete feel more immediate and tactile. After listening closely, the audio helps frame the environment and gives the visuals a stronger context.
The imagery supports this idea by focusing on concrete surfaces and the textures of the built environment. These details help reinforce the atmosphere of the piece and draw attention to elements of the urban landscape that people might normally overlook.
The pacing of the edits generally matches the rhythm of the audio, which helps maintain a steady flow throughout the video. Overall, the project creates a clear connection between the audio and visuals and uses both elements effectively to communicate the concept.
Hey Whalen,
There were a couple of black screen moments through the video – was that intentional? The only other thing I’d mention is that there were some moments in the audio that it was difficult to catch what you were saying, and may need some audio balancing. Otherwise, I like the story you portrayed – the confusion that comes after crashing on a scooter – and the tension that entails.
Hi Whalen,
I really enjoyed your video and the spoken word piece it was paired with! The text cards were really well used to emphasize the repeated line “you’re bleeding out on the concrete.” The colors used on these cards matched well with the muted colors of many of your other assets. It was a bit difficult to understand the spoken word audio at times but i appreciated the artistic effect! It worked well with the uneasy tone of the background song but it did make it hard for me to identify the video theme at first. The flashing images (0:19 – 0:21 and 0:48 – 0:56) was very visually interesting! Great timing there!
