The original image was taken by me at the Everglades last year. The main focus of the image are the water lily’s, so I cropped the image to exclude the grass towards the bottom of the image. I also wanted to alter the ratio so the sky and the grassy areas are evenly distributed. I cropped the image primarily to leave out unnecessary details.
I was initially going to knock the even split of the tree line, but the horizon being on the lower third still makes for a dynamic image without compromising the greenery. And, hey, you did get most of those twigs out of the shot, so the image is quite scenic. Good job!
I really enjoy the simplistic beauty of the Everglades, so this cropped photo really accentuates that spirit. By removing the grass at the bottom of the image, the focus of the photo is shifted more to the sky, in my opinion. Which is really cool because the clouds here are so interesting! This crop also does exactly as you wanted, evens out the distribution of the sky against the lily pads. To change the focus, you could have cropped from the top of the photo, which would have shifted focus to the lily pads or the grass at the bottom. But all in all I love the sky against the lily pads, this was an excellent take on this photo!
