Hey Jason!
Your video explores themes of overstimulation from technology before offering viewers an actionable way out of this harmful pattern. You did a nice job lightly animating your first two images- zooming in from space towards earth- to frame your ideas in a broad, philosophical context. The opening verse of your soundtrack similarly begins with a moody tone before opening into a hopeful chorus as your images transition from cold and detached to a more optimistic mood. Your editing was smooth and portrayed a natural progression. Ending on a closeup of a “VOLUNTEER” shirt works as an ending button that functions like a call to action for the viewer.
Hi Jason.
My takeaway from this video is how disconnected most people are from the universe, the earth, and most of all, each other. We are constantly being pulled by social media and buying and collecting stuff that we do not need. I appreciated how the video progressed from being disconnected to being connected by getting outside, moving our bodies, and volunteering, therefore empowering ourselves.
The image that stands out the most to me is the last image of a person with the word ‘volunteer’ on the shirt. It is powerful because it leaves the viewer with a message to volunteer as a way to overcome the disconnection that the first part of the video touched on.
I felt the timing of the images paired well with the audio. I liked how the audio felt a bit sad at first, and once the images began to reflect a more positive outlook, the audio began to match that tone.
Overall, great job with your video.
Hi, Jason!
I think there were two potential takeaways that emerged for me from this video. It seemed like it was either saying that more of us could be spending our time off of our phones/various digital distractions, or that in spite of the temptation for us to say how bad the world is with all of us being distracted, there are still people who take the time to get out and do good work for others. I really love your choice of title here. You chose a word that has multiple meanings in the context of your video: we are disconnected from each other when we distract ourselves with technology, but if we disconnect from these various forms of media, we can reconnect with each other in different ways. I think that the pacing of the editing could have varied a little more, but overall I think you did a great job!
