The image of a young girl in sunglasses, ready to move forward in her toy car, paired with the upbeat synth/dance music evokes a hopeful inevitableness that we’ve all felt in our youth, and also when watching young children as they move through each stage of life. More than this, though, it’s a reminder that we all face a future whose pace of technological expansion increases by the day. We ALL rush forward into an unknown future, whether we like it or not. The music doesn’t stop. Hopefully, we can put on the shades and steady ourselves optimistically with both hands on the wheel, like this young one. Ready, set…..goooooo!

Finding the Right Balance Through Education and Music

Hi everyone,

I’m Eddie, and I live in South Florida. I work at the Miami-Dade Public Library System in Miami Springs. Even though I don’t live in Miami Springs, I spend a lot of time there for work. I really enjoy being part of that community because the library is closely connected to the people it serves.

I’m a graduate student at Florida State University School of Information, pursuing a degree in Information Studies. I’m primarily interested in helping with digital literacy and how can libraries better support their communities.

At the Miami Springs Branch Library, I help people with reference questions and their technology needs. I also spend a lot of time working with children, leading storytimes and crafts, as well as basic technology classes that encourage learning and creativity. I try to help everyone who enters the library, and also during outreach as best as I can with all of their questions and basic tasks.

When I’m not working or studying, I enjoy singing. I’m a part-time member of the Master Chorale of South Florida, a 100-plus-member community choir. Singing with the chorale is a hobby that I love, which brings a balance to my academic and professional life when I am able to participate.

I’m hopeful to improve and learn new skills in blogging by practicing hands-on and am glad we are starting very simply and building from there. Also to learn from all of you and from reading your posts.

About Me- Aedan

Hi, my name is Aedan Bennett and I am in my last semester ever at FSU (hopefully). Like probably all of us, I am getting my Masters in Library Sciences, but I hope to get a Masters of Arts instead of Sciences because I actually started as a Literature major, so those courses make my degree an Arts degree. I work part time at TSC (Tallahassee State College) as a Librarian. Here’s our official page:

I spend most of my time there, at school, or at home doing school online, but when I’m not doing any of those things, my biggest hobbies are reading, going to the springs and parks around town, and running TIRA: the Tallahassee Immigrant Rights Alliance. The picture below is me and my girlfriend Katy who helps run it too.

I’m excited mostly for this to be my last semester. I actually failed this class last semester because I read the instructions wrong for the last paper and wrote about a different topic and my teacher completely failed me! So here I am again, but I hope to learn more of the things that slipped through the cracks last semester.

Hello class!

My name is Alyssa and I live over on the Space Coast of Florida in a small city called Rockledge. I’m in my second year of the MIS program at FSU, where I’m studying for a career in librarianship. Going hang-in-hand with that, I currently work part-time with Brevard Public Libraries doing circulation. I’ve only been working there for a few months but it’s already been an incredible experience.

I’m not one for professional photos, but I love my digicam and preserving memories. The picture to the right was taken when my friends and I were visiting Austin’s Coffee in Orlando on their Jazz Night. On the left is my best friend Jojo and I’m on the right. I used to live in Orlando while getting my undergraduate degrees from UCF. I got a BA in English (creative writing) and a BS in psychology. Creative writing is one of my biggest hobbies, and one of my lifelong dreams is to become a published fiction author. In my spare time, I also enjoy walking around my local park, and doing various arts & crafts activities like painting, sewing, and wood-burning. 

Like many others in this field, I also love reading. At any given time, I always have a book I’m working through, and I won’t be stopping anytime soon, especially since working in a library has doubled my TBR list. Right now, I’m reading a novel called Good Spirits at the recommendation of one of my coworkers. My friends and I also have a book club to keep each other accountable on our reading goals and to discuss books. 

My knowledge is a bit limited when it comes to computers, editing, or digital media. That being said, I find editing photos to be interesting (it goes hand-in-hand with photography, after all) and I’ve dabbled in it on occasion. I’m hoping this class will help me improve my skills and to hopefully have fun in the process!

Hello!!! My name is Ana Vega, and I currently live in Miami, Florida, where I was born and raised. For those familiar with the area, I live closer to Pinecrest! I’m truly a Florida girl at heart. I also share my home with my wonderful son, Cacio e Pepe, though everyone simply calls him Pepe.

I completed a dual major in History and Art History, graduating from Rollins College in May 2025, and I am now in my second semester of the MSI program. I aspire to become an archivist and work with museums and special collections, as this is something I genuinely love. During my undergraduate years, I completed several archival internships, and I found the work incredibly rewarding, which is why I’m so passionate about archives today.

I also wrote an Art History honors thesis during my undergraduate studies titled “Locating the Archangel Saint Michael in Michelangelo Buonarroti’s The Creation of Adam.” If anyone is interested in reading it, I’ll be linking it here!

Art history is a major passion of mine, as evidenced by writing an entire thesis, but outside of academics, I also enjoy drawing. I do freelance art commissions every other month and will be including a link to my art blog as well here, in case anyone would like to see more of my work!
