Spring 2023

ADHD & Grammy’s Mountain Dew

All video editing was done in DaVinci Resolve. My narration was recorded in Audacity. The video clips were shot with a Google Pixel 6 Pro. All other visual and audio resources used are listed below.

For my digital story, I decided to share a funny story from my childhood that just might’ve been a perfect example of my un-diagnosed ADHD at the time. Come along for the laughs, and stay for the helpful resources at the end!

Hiccups

Synopsis

This video memorializes a memory from my childhood. My dad is one of those “funny” dads who largely stays quiet but will pipe in with a smart aleck-y quip or a dad-joke to make the kids groan when they least expect it. Having such a personality, it would be too easy to scare the hiccups out of me by merely popping out from behind a door or making a loud noise—although I do startle easily, so either of those options would likely have worked! Instead, he had to get creative and scare them out of me… psychologically.

Dialogue was recorded by me and voice acting was performed by myself and my dad, Tony Vanlier. All visual assets were found and compiled by me using Canva. This video was created and edited using DaVinci Resolve 18.

After listening to this song an insane amount of times to think of a topic for my video, I finally landed on how we should put more money into taking care of our home. The song talks about money and how we are responsible for our votes, and it made me think about how we should use our resources to implement policies and practices to ensure our home will still be home to future generations. And when the song mentions 2025, I thought about the future, and how I hope in the future, we will be more serious about making the earth a priority. Enjoy!

Ghosted: A Paranormal Podcast – Episode 73: Toasted

Ghosted: A Paranormal Podcast covers everything ghostly. The host, Lisa Spirit, is a retired mortician who loves all things scary. Of course, not every episode can be jam packed with verifiable spookiness, so she occasionally takes calls from her loyal listeners. This week, Jimmy McJames calls in with a bizarre issue in the kitchen.

This podcast has a Halloweeny background track that fades in and out. I recorded the intro with as little background noise as possible, trying to sound somewhere between an amateur podcaster and a professional. The ringtone was added to signal the caller segment. I added distortion to “Jimmy McJames'” call, making it sound like he was calling from a less-than-stellar connection. I also slightly distorted the toaster sounds to match them with “Jimmy’s” voice.

Small Town Mysteries Podcast

My Small Town Mysteries podcast is a true crime podcast where I dived into shocking but interesting crime stories from small towns throughout the United States every week. I was just talking to someone the other day about how the craziest stuff happens in small towns and its a rare chance that it hits the national news. Since these town are so small and sometimes far removed, a story has to be really shocking for it to hit the news. I am an avid listener of podcasts and I am from a small town, so it was a no brainer to create a podcast about the craziness of those small towns.

I chose to create what would be my intro episode, where I would be sharing with my new audience what my podcast is about before we dove into our case of the week. This would be before my theme music and introducing my first case. I chose mystery and haunting sounding music to go along with my true crime theme and placed a window breaking and baby crying sound effects within the audio to bring an emphasis to those areas.

I would like to hear from you about your thoughts! Share in the comments what comes to mind when listening to the audio. Does it make you want to tune in for an episode? 🙂
