Life of a Starving Artist: Working to Live

Synopsis: A law student struggles to balance becoming a lawyer for financial stability and his passion for painting. He works hard during the day but at night he indulges in his true passion–painting. The story is told from the law student’s point of view.

Content & Creation: For the Final Project, I used a mix of videos provided on Canva and videos that I recorded myself. I also utilized Canva to edit my digital story. If an audio clip was not compatible with Canva, I utilized Audacity to convert the audio clip to MP3. The content I filmed myself includes the law student painting and studying, the law student’s paintings, as well as the law student walking in front of University of Miami Law School. The content I pulled from Canva includes the videos of the alarm clock, the man tying his school, traffic, Florida law books, the professor lecturing, the student taking an exam, and the boy going to bed. The content pulled from Canva was either free on Canva or included in Canva Pro.

Synopsis

This story covers an experience of my grandmother (Marilynn) when she was in high school. A man she was smitten with had been sent out to fight in the Korean War. She wanted to take him (Mark) to her prom so she wrote Mamie Eisenhower requesting that she help get him home for the event.

Synopsis: The iconic Mothman of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, goes on a romantic dinner date with his lady love, but he can’t stop the flames of passion igniting in his wandering eyes. Mothman’s overt nostalgia for the glory, adoration, and fame of bygone days ruins the true love he’s cultivated in the present, and by the end of the night, he loses the one person who ever truly cared about him.

Assets and Software: This video was created using creative commons licensed assets (music, audio clips, still images, and short video clips) obtained from sites such as Pexels and Freesound.org, as well as original video and audio shot and recorded by me. Software used includes iMovie and Canva.

Synopsis : Elara, a young scholar, finds a mystical library with magical books that lead to fantastical realms. She embarks on a quest, battling creatures and solving riddles to uncover its secrets and ultimate magical knowledge.

Media Assets & Software : I sourced images from Creative Commons, including real-life and AI-generated work by various artists, along with music and sound effects. Using ElevenLabs and Charlotte’s voice for narration, I created the script myself. Finally, I combined everything using Canva.

Journey time with Falcon

Synopsis:

The Story is about a motorcycle called Falcon telling the story from his perspective how he felt when he lost his rider. Even though it’s a sad story but the whole purpose of the video it is giving advice and warning that speeding up may cause for death, or dangerous health damage.  It’s a true story for my brother who I lost in 2016 in motorcycle accident, and I was seeing how much my brother loves his motorcycle and named it Falcon.

Content & Creation:

For this video I search for different photos for a motorcycle Harley photo and then decided to edit them through Premier photo just to give the photos clearer quality. After Choosing the photos it was challenging for me to find a good fit for songs, so I decide to have a piano music as my background while recording myself telling the story. For recording I used Audacity then edit it inside the website to make sure that my voice is clear without disturbing noises. Lastly, I used true photos from the real accident that my brother done and end up his life both my brother and the motorcycle.

Odyssey

Synopsis

After being left behind in a classroom, its up to this brave water bottle to find its way back to its owner. Though it faces a long journey with plenty of challenges, it is determined to not give up and to find its way back to her.

Production

This stop-motion video was created using photos I took around the FSU College of Law campus. Any additional visual assets have Creative Commons licenses. I did the voiceover myself. All other audio assets have Creative Commons licenses.

Software

I took the photos on my iPhone camera. I used Canva to create a presentation, imported my photos, and edited them. Each frame of the video is actually a presentation slide, and I adjusted the timing of each slide in Canva. After creating the video, I moved over to Clipchamp where I began adding my audio elements.

The Wizard’s Unicorn

Synopsis

This story is about a Wizard who had a dream about a unicorn. The wizard struggles to summon his unicorn but determined to prove those who made fun of him wrong, he tries again and again.

Media Assets & Software

I shot The Wizard’s Unicorn using my iPhone 13pro, I proceeded to take the images into Canva where I combined and edited them. I used various graphics provided by Canva and one image provided by Pexels. After I was satisfied with the video, I took it into Filmoria where I added sound effects and music that I obtained from FreeSound.

SONGBIRD

Synopsis: This story follows a songbird, born with a beautiful voice, and the price she must pay for people to listen. Desperate for people to hear her song, she allows herself to become trapped by those who say they love her, and each time she is caught, she’s left with scars of the encounter until she sets herself free.

With the exception of the image on the title slide, I filmed all video/image assets used in this project. I used my iPhone 15 Plus and two different Sensyne tripods (one of which had a ring light attached) to film each asset. I enabled a Bluetooth remote to pair with my phone, and could manually start recording while in the camera frame. For audio assets, I used Audacity for macOS to record my narration. I also had a friend compose the background track of the video, which is titled “Songbird.” Finally, a friend had recorded the final snippet of my audio one Sunday at church and it is a live recording. The video was produced using Adobe Premiere Pro 2023 for macOS and exported as H.264. Each clip was individually manipulated in the editing program and all audio clips were also edited with the same software.

The Language of the Aisles

Synopsis:

A girl, new to Korea, must perform a simple task— buy groceries. But she realizes how difficult it is when you don’t speak or read the language. Will she be able to find all the ingredients she needs?

Media Assets & Software

All videos were filmed by Liam Shelton, while directed and acted by Dakotah Shelton. We collected them at a local super market in Asan Techno Valley. They were captured using the GoPro Hero11. The voiceovers were all recorded by Dakotah Shelton and with the Blue microphone. Video edits were made using Adobe Premiere Pro on a ProArt Studiobook.

Synopsis

This is a story about a boring guy name Roger who tries technology for the first time and is surprised at how quickly his life was turned around. Is it convenient or just intrusive?

Media Assets & Software

This video was filmed by me alone on a Canon 5d Mark II DSLR. The quick images for the television was made using Adobe Photoshop. I voiced and acted for the main character, Roger. The secretary on the phone, the voice for the television ad, and Elektra were all recorded from text to speech using NaturalReader’s website. I used Vegas Pro to edit the video with color changing effects, along with the many overlapping sound effects and music that were sourced from freesound.
