The Books of the Dead is a podcast dedicated to the reviewing of books with people who have passed on at their center. This could be a work of nonfiction of an historical figure or a work of fiction centered around a ghost.

My imaginary podcast series is essentially a digital book club. The idea is that each episode would discuss a different book that I have read along with the podcast listeners. The sound elements in this project include intro music, spoken word, and the sound effect of a cat meowing. The cat meowing would act as a transition sound for each audio clip in the episode.

The sounds in this podcast help create a cozy, nostalgic vibe. My voice as the speaker carries the spoken word and dialogue, keeping things grounded. It kicks off with the classic sound of a needle dropping on a vinyl, setting the tone with a vintage feel. Toward the end of the clip, I added the warm, fuzzy crackle you hear from a turntable to give it that familiar vinyl warmth. There’s also a laid-back jazzy melody at 88 beats per minute playing throughout, which rounds out the relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Altogether, the sounds blend to create a vibe perfect for kicking back and diving into the world of vinyl.

Exploring Florida is a bi-weekly podcast dedicated to travelers interested in exploring Florida nature trails, small towns, and other hidden gems. In the podcast series I discuss the attraction, atmosphere, and long history to the week’s lesser known destination. Come join me and be inspired to pack up your travel gear and explore Florida.
The hope of this podcast is to encourage listeners to set aside time to get out, travel, and explore historic Florida outside of the major cities. The podcast begins with intro music as I welcome listeners back to the podcast. The intro music then fades into the background with the ambient sounds I’ve recorded at each destination. During the Egans Creek Greenway podcast, you can hear the nature and wildlife present at Egans Creek Greenway as I’m speaking about Egans Creek and what makes it a great next visit for you.
The intro music was cut using Audacity with instrumental sections from the song, “Let Nature Be Nature” which I found via CC Mixster. The ambient nature sounds and wildlife sounds were also cut using Audacity and overlayed into the podcast audio. The podcast photo was edited using Apple Photos with a photo taken from my visit to Egans Creek Greenway. I used what I learned from our Typography media lab to custom make a unique podcast cover that features the actual location I went to visit; each podcast would feature a unique cover of the locale to further inspire listeners to go out and discover the new destination.
As an outdoor enthusiast myself, my hope for the podcast is to inform, entertain, and inspire others like me to get out and explore Florida.

I’ve been practicing the physical aspect of yoga for about three years, though as I’ve started to consider teacher training, I’ve slowly begun to familiarize myself with yoga as a lifestyle, its history, and its original meaning. I thought it would be fun to start off the podcast with my singing bowl, an instrument often used to start or end a class or to meditate due to its vibrational properties (attributed to the Westernization of yoga). To an audience who has taken a yoga class or guided meditation, this sound effect would hopefully evoke images associated with yoga. The peaceful effect does not last for long, though, as in this episode we are taking an unflinching look at the transformation of yoga into an institution that perpetually creates and empowers abusers. As I delve into my three anecdotes, my voiceover is accompanied by intense chanting music that heightens and fades with the emotion of the words. The practice of chanting is rooted in The Vedas, and so it is commonly practiced as a part of contemporary yoga as well as in teacher training programs. The voice over and mixing proved to be the most difficult for me as I’m unfamiliar with these aspects of digital content. My friend who records music suggested that since I don’t have a walk-in closet, to record the voiceover under my comforter, which I worked to muffle background noise.

Description: When designing my podcast I wanted to focus on my passion of museums and art galleries. I remember as a child I would watch the art history videos done by the Khan Academy and decided to start my own Art History focused podcast which covers Italian Renaissance Art in Season 2. I used this episode cover image as one of the images I took of one of Botticelli’s works at the Louvre and will focus on medium, time period, and artist’s bio in the episode.
The opening audio is a classic work of violin music by Corelli titled “Trio Sonata” and was taken from Wikipedia commons. As well the ending sound effect to conclude the introduction is church bell tolls from Italy titled “Campane Dardine” also found on the Wikipedia commons. I used Corelli’s Sonata as background music also behind my voice during the intro before transitioning to the Campane Dardine. The cover image, music, and sound effect all align to the theme of the Italian Renaissance.

Description:
I chose to do a fashion related podcast called “Trend Talk” for this assignment. The goal of this podcast is to discuss a controversial fashion trend on each episode with input from listeners. The intended audience for this podcast would be teens, young adults, and fashion enthusiasts. To acheive this vibe, I chose to use a high pitched, excited voice to portray the sense of an outgoing individual. The first three clicks in the introduction of the podcast are meant to sound like a camera at a photoshoot or clicks from paparrazi. Next, I picked a lofi song that reminded me of something that I would hear at a fashion show or gallery event. The addition of the police siren audio clip adds a bit of humor that will be necessary to keep listeners from getting bored throughout the duration of the podcast. I felt that it was not necessary to have background music while I was speaking so that there was not a distraction from what I was saying.
