For this assignment I used Canva to crop my selected image and embed the text. For the title text I used Sprite Graffiti which is a decorative / display font. For the body text I used Soloway which is a slab serif font, I also used the highlight effect to add a pick background to the body text. I edited the text to wrap around the image’s subject and aligned I the text to the left.

The original image was taken by me at the Everglades last year. The main focus of the image are the water lily’s, so I cropped the image to exclude the grass towards the bottom of the image. I also wanted to alter the ratio so the sky and the grassy areas are evenly distributed. I cropped the image primarily to leave out unnecessary details.
This image is a landscape painting of trees by a small body of water. This image stood out to me because the colors are very warm and it reminded me of a creek near my aunts house in North Carolina. In the image you can see the sun peeping over the horizon in a way that could indicate either sunset or sunrise. The audio I paired it with is of an acoustic guitar that sounds like a song you’d start your day off with. I think the audio enhances the image by setting the mood and bringing the image to life. With the audio playing, it feels like the sun is rising and a new day is beginning.

Hello, everyone! My name is Nyabi ( “Ny” like “Sky”) and I live in Miami, FL. This is my second to last semester in the MSI program; I am also pursuing the School Librarian Leadership certificate! I am really looking forward to this class and am excited to get to know you all!
The Journey So Far:
I began working in libraries while studying as an undergraduate student at Hampshire College. For the past 4 years, I have worked at the University of Miami’s Richter Library where I manage the Peer Research Consultant program, and staff our Research Help Desk. In this role, I get the opportunity to manage a wonderful group of student workers and aid the liaison librarians with research consultations, library instruction sessions, along with other fun programs held in our library Learning Commons, such as our upcoming Crafternoon event! hope to continue working with college-level students, potentially as a subject liaison or student success librarian, however I am open to other opportunities in various school settings.
Hobbies and Special Interests:
School and work keep me pretty busy, but when I’m not reading, I enjoy hanging out with my family (including my two children cats Eli and Esme), playing Stardew Valley, and working on various (slowly progressing) sewing and crochet projects! I am working towards crocheting my first sweater (although I may settle for a nice vest if I get tired of single crocheting my way through this pattern). I also enjoy musicals (Hadestown is my favorite) and watching reality TV, particularly Survivor and Big Brother! If you are also impatiently waiting for the Survivor: Season 50 premiere, do not hesitate to reach out, aside from romance books, there is nothing I like talking about more!!
Here is a picture of my two cats. Esme enjoys her personal space… and Eli also enjoys Esme’s personal space.
Why LIS 5313?
I already enjoy many aspects of design. At work I have helped with several artistic projects such as creating event posters, designing research guides, and using Adobe Premiere to edit an informational video titled “Using AI for Research.” I hope to learn many more tips to improve my creative instinct, and help me make better design choices. I am particularly excited to learn more about typography. Personally, I can spend hours just selecting fonts, so I am curious to learn more about the theories designers use to help with these choices.
