Her wrinkles linger

My digital story is about the love-hate relationship between my late grandma and me. The main character of my story is my grandma and how her hatred towards me vanished and infinite affection bloomed.

This digital story was created, directed, and edited by me using tools like Canva (for photo editing), Davinci Resolve 18 (for video editing) and iPhone Voice memos (for audio recording). In addition to the many personal photographs used in this digital story, I have used the following assets:

Library Sanctuary Digital Story

Library Sanctuary

Self Created Media: Audio, photos and video.

Synopsis: This is my story of discovering librarianship, but how this realization finally settled in.

Software Used: Canva Design Tool, cell phone voice recorder.

I used Canva on my Dell laptop, and to edit this film. I did not realize Canva could be used for videos, and after that discovery I stayed within Canva exclusively. I utilized Canva’s music and I recorded my own narration. After several days of edits, I loaded my final draft into Youtube and voila!

A Book’s Story

A Book’s Story by John Russell

My digital story is about the journey that a book goes through once it arrives at the library. The main character of the story is a book and we follow this book through its first month at the library.

This film was directed, filmed, and edited by me. In addition to the film and sound that I recorded, I used the following assets:

Alarm Clock Watch Time Retro 15629 by user 3184449 free for use under Pixabay License

Good Morning by Muzaproduction free for use under Pixabay License

Happy Acoustic Inspirational Kids Background Music by Music Unlimited free for use under Pixabay License

Happy Upbeat Ukulele by The Mountain free for use under Pixabay License

Crowd Talking by Defeated Sanity free for use under Pixabay License

Whoosh by Natty23 free for use under Pixabay License

I used iMovie on my Macbook Pro to edit this film. I also have Final Cut Pro installed and started editing the video in that program, but it was beginning to get to difficult. So I switched to iMove and the process went a lot smoother. I used Canva Pro to create my title card and ending card. I also used Canva to add the time description in the clock scenes. Since my voice actors were unable to complete their parts, I used my voice and filters to create all of the character voices.

Hiccups

Synopsis

This video memorializes a memory from my childhood. My dad is one of those “funny” dads who largely stays quiet but will pipe in with a smart aleck-y quip or a dad-joke to make the kids groan when they least expect it. Having such a personality, it would be too easy to scare the hiccups out of me by merely popping out from behind a door or making a loud noise—although I do startle easily, so either of those options would likely have worked! Instead, he had to get creative and scare them out of me… psychologically.

Dialogue was recorded by me and voice acting was performed by myself and my dad, Tony Vanlier. All visual assets were found and compiled by me using Canva. This video was created and edited using DaVinci Resolve 18.
