Pandora Retold

Synopsis: The story is a type of retelling of Pandora. I was re-reading the story as listed in Thomas Bulfinch’s Mythology and he stated that it didn’t make much sense that everything was let out in to the world from a box of evils, but yet Hope remained. I agreed that it made more sense that it was all types of “feelings” that were let out in to the world. But why would Pandora want to open it? Her curiosity, yes, but why was she curious in the first place. In some of the readings about her I discovered that the gods had blessed her with graces. But what if they left something out? This story tells the story of a Pandora that was given many graces by the gods, but they left out “feelings” so naturally she was curious. I also stated, that she opened a urn, not as in a burial urn, but Bulfinch also stated that originally urns were used to hold things so they would also be fastened shut. So in this story she’s opening a box. I decided not to use narration. I personally do not like the sound of my own voice so I was trying to use an AI voice, but none of it was working out, and I felt that it took away from the story, because you’re focusing on that audio rather than the music and the story. In the format I used Canva completely.

Olympic History

Erin Jackson is a speed skater from Ocala, Florida. She started roller skating at a young age and began speed skating shortly after. She is competitive in inline speed skating, roller derby, and speed skating. My family owns a roller-skating rink in Tallahassee, Florida and we have been very active in the speed skating community for over 20 years. My children, as well as my niece and nephews all speed skated competitively at the National level. I have made many friends over the years in the speed skating community, including Olympians and their coach, Renee Hildebrand. Erin’s story is a compelling one. I hope that all agree! Let’s Go Team USA!

“Olympic History” was created by LaSandra Barnhill using DaVinci Resolve 18. Credits and Title Page created with Canva.

This video was created in Davinci Resolve 18 to create the MP4 video. The narration is done by me. The audio was recorded on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and uploaded to Audacity. I also used Canva to create the credits and the title screen. All of the software speaks to Davinci very well if in MP3 or MP4 format. Additional soundbites with creative commons licensure were uploaded directly to Davinci. I liked the layering feature in Davinci. It allows for multiple sources to be split and moved around prior to the final rendering to MP4.

The Hungry Turtle

Synopsis & Background

Humorous digital story about a hungry turtle. It tells the story of the hungry turtle on its quest for food while also teaching the intended audience (children) what to not feed a turtle.

Just moved into a house with a giant pond in the backyard with hundreds of turtles. My kids ask daily if they can feed the turtle their dinner or leaves, etc. This video was inspired by that.

Audio narration recorded by me.

Riding the Wave

Summary:

Noah is a 7-year-old who loves being at the beach and anywhere with water. This summer he wanted to finally learn how to surf. After becoming discouraged when he fell off the board, he tried one more time and stood up.

When creating the video, I produced the background music that is playing throughout the track and incorporated the sound effects during the creation process so that everything flowed well together. The videos that are shown in the story, were shot by myself on a GoPro Hero 9. I edited the photos in Adobe Lightroom, used Apple’s iMovie for video editing, and produced the audio in Ableton Live.
