Hi Savannah! First off, I LOVE this audio track! It’s so upbeat and energizing. It really grabbed my attention immediately and put a huge smile on my face. I admit I didn’t get the message of this video until maybe my third time watching it. I initially thought it was about traveling and the stress of making your flight, waiting for the bus, etc. But then I realized that the image of the ring alone, and so many people alone, probably means it’s actually about leaving a relationship!! So yeah. I was a little dense on this one at first but I got it eventually. I noticed you added the “stressed out” tile right when the song said “stressed out” which lined up perfectly and the watch showing midnight when he sang about midnight. But I didn’t really understand the significance of that (midnight) unless it was about catching a plane (which also plays into me thinking this was about the stress of traveling). The upbeat song definitely contrasts with the lonely images and the stress in general (although stress can be energized too and lots of people travel alone so that’s how I justify my confusion haha). So that part was a good exercise in contrast. One suggestion: I did feel like your pacing was a little slow and with the fast-paced music, the opportunity was definitely there to do some quicker-paced edits in some parts! But on the other hand, for a video about divorce or breaking up, maybe the slower pace is what delivers the message better in this instance. I’m not sure! I loved the image of the bird flying away–that was the best. And so many of the images of people alone really evoked loneliness and moodiness. This was a neat idea for a video and again, such a great song!
I seem to be in the same way of thinking as Karen. I initially thought the video was about travel, but the idea of it being about leaving a relationship is quite interesting. The images did not seem to be on beat so that threw me off a bit. If you were to recreate this, making the message a little more clear would make an already cool video very memorable.
Hello Savannah!
I also had different thoughts about the theme of your video. I initially wondered if you were describing the pressures of life and wanting to go on a trip to get away, or maybe someone being depressed and wanting to go away for the same reason. Then, I saw your images of a wedding ring being left on a table, and “stressed out” being spelt out in scrabble tiles. It was then that I assumed the point of the video was leaving a bad marriage.
The timing and pacing of the edits were slow at times and didn’t keep pace with the rhythm of the audio, but that and the clarity of the theme were the only downsides of the presentation. Otherwise, good work!
