Solo-Dev is a interview podcast that dives into the world of solo-developer video game design. Each episode, we discuss programs and tools needed, explore techniques for effective design and the creative decisions one makes when building a game from the ground up. Through these interviews with solo creators across the industry, we break down how to figure out a strategy for building up your game with discussions around different game engines, art styles, publishing platforms, and more.
For the audio, I picked a couple of sounds that I think kick-starts you into a video-gamey atmosphere. I lowered the volume on the background music, all of which was put together in Canva.
Hello Jorge!
Your concept of podcast is one that would definitely help those who are solo game designers. Discussing building games from the ground up and using different aspects of game design within the podcast, would add to the importance of “Solo-Dev” (which took me a minute to realize was short for solo developers). The audio choices were also great, and reminded me of old school video games, such as “Pac Man” and “Space Invaders”. Your delivery was natural and did not sound like you were reading off a script, which, incorporated with the audio clips, made the podcast sound seamless.
Regarding your choice of imagery, I thought it connected with the podcast theme with the use of the retro style of video game and title font. Great job!

Hi Jorge, I really gravitated towards your podcast concept as someone who has developed an educational video game and enjoys playing them. The mood of your podcast felt fun and educational, and I feel like this would be a great resource for aspiring developers. The audio choices were great in conveying the topic of “video games” with the action sfx in the beginning, and funky background beat. For improvement, I would lower the volume on the opening sound effect as it did startle me a little with my volume all the way up to start. Overall, great job!
Jorge,
I really like the concept of your podcast. I think this a cool idea and I think it would really draw in many people given how popular video game development is. I thought the audio you chose to use really worked well with your podcast theme and your voice over had a nice flow too. The VoiceOver sounded natural and not at all robotic or like it was being read from a script. I think the image with the retro game in the background is perfect for this podcast and gets the topic of the podcast across without really needing a synopsis to read. Well done!
