The Ravenclaw Common Room is an imagined, fantastical podcast set within the world of Harry Potter. Broadcast from the Ravenclaw Common Room, as the series name suggests, it’s dedicated to the students of Hogwarts filled with curiosity, intelligence, and the pursuit of knowledge. Each episode explores magical theory, ancient runes, forgotten spells, and the deeper questions behind the wizarding world.
The combined sound elements present a tone of calmness, thoughtfulness, and slight mystery. The episode opens with soft and instrumental fantasy styled music, with an ambient wind effect playing underneath, to set the scene of being in a magical tower high above Hogwarts. The music quietly continues under my spoken narration, recorded by myself. Sound effects include a page turning and a quill writing to create the atmosphere of scholarly investigation. The music subtly swells towards the end of the intro to build excitement towards announcing this week’s topic before officially diving deep into it.

Thanks for sharing, overall your piece was very quiet, which may be fitting for an academic-esque vibe, however I did find certain elements to kind of blend together, especially the music was vague and indistinct. I did really like the implementation of the page turn sound effect, I felt it was at a good volume in comparison and was well situated in the context of the podcast. It’s hard for me to judge if this is a podcast that would get an audience as it is situated in a fictional idea, coupled with the fact that I have never been a fan of the Harry Potter world, it’s a strong, “I don’t know” from me. For a wider appeal, maybe the idea would need to be more developed into a general magically inspired guide, but again I’m just uncertain because it is rooted in fiction. Right at the end, where the speaker says “Claws and Crowns” (I think) was a little hard for me to tell what exactly was being said (at least on a first listen), so a gentle reminder to be sure to enunciate clearly. Otherwise the narration itself seemed fine.
Hi there!
This is such a wonderful concept, very original! I especially like that this is based on the world of Harry Potter, given its worldwide acclaim and 20+ year grip its held on millennials. The gentle music is the beginning is reminiscent of those YouTube ambient-style videos you play in the background while you study, especially on par with a common room podcast. The narration fits in perfectly in terms of tone and content, specifically the “staircase that refuses to stand still” comment. It is really embedded within the world of Harry Potter, which is quite cool. I think this could garner a significant following, alluring Harry Potter fans from all over the world interested in having a “sneak peek” into the Ravenclaw common room (although I’m a Gryffindor myself). My only suggestion would be to add a bit more “mystery” or “magic” to the episode’s soundtrack, and maybe a more pronounced enunciation near the end. Other than that, this is an awesome concept and really audibly appealing!
Hi Amal!
Great audio! I genuinely think your voice is perfect for this type of podcast. This might sound a little unusual, but your tone has a distinct aesthetic quality to it, the way you emphasize certain words and use pauses feels very intentional and engaging. It works especially well for a podcast about Hogwarts, where atmosphere really matters.
I also loved the additional sound effects you included. They added just the right touch of magic and whimsy without feeling overdramatic. Instead, the overall tone stayed confident and straightforward, which made it even more compelling.
And can I just say, your poster absolutely rocks. I love how you combined multiple elements so thoughtfully. The different visual components work cohesively, and I especially liked how you layered the sparkles into the design. That detail really enhances the magical feel and ties perfectly into the theme of the podcast.
Hi Amal,
I really liked the sound effects you chose, especially the scratching quill pen. That and the swelling music were a really good lead-in to the rest of the hypothetical podcast. On that note I think you really embodied the assignment which was to create an intro that felt like it was definitely a part of a larger concept. I think the hook was good and the concept was creative and it seems hard to pull off consistently, which is a good thing because it will keep people interested.
