Sleepy Time Stories Episode 3 Poster by Ana Vega, derived from Henri-Edmond Cross Landscape with Stars (1905-1908), courtesy of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Public domain (CC0).
Sleepy Time Stories is a podcast designed to offer fun, whimsical bedtime tales that help listeners gently drift off to sleep. While the podcast can be soothing for listeners of all ages, it is especially geared toward children, given the playful tone. The featured “episode” includes a children’s bedtime story I originally created for an undergraduate writing course, narrated in my own voice. Whimsical, cartoon-like sound effects are thoughtfully incorporated to highlight key moments in the narrative, adding an extra layer of charm and engagement for young listeners.
For the poster, I cropped and slightly adjusted the coloring of Henri-Edmond Cross’s Landscape with Stars (1905-1908). I chose this artwork because its surreal depiction of the night sky beautifully complements the dreamy atmosphere of the podcast. Since the podcast is primarily geared toward younger children, I selected a whimsical, playful font for the title to reflect the imaginative and childlike tone of the stories.

Hello, thanks so much for sharing your work! I really think you nailed the vibe of a children’s story podcast, your narration style matches really well and the sound effects you included contextually made sense and would probably be fun for kids. I can’t quite tell if the sound I’m hearing in the background is technical interference/static, or if that is an intended background sound though. I don’t think it’s too distracting, but something worth keeping in mind. I know you picture it more as a bedtime thing, but I think an idea like this could also work well for implementing in read-a-long programing at schools or libraries. The one note I would give for narration, is just to slow down a little and add some more pauses between lines (where it would make sense, not necessarily between every line) but that is a fairly minor thing.
Hey there!
This is the cutest! I especially enjoyed the whimsical elements inserted throughout the story. A bedtime story podcast is such a wonderful idea, given how much children benefit especially from bedtime stories. I think this could garner a decent following, considering the likes of children’s characters like Blippi and Ms. Rachel taking the world by storm. My only suggestion lies in the somewhat conflicting elements of the gentle drifting to sleep aim and the whimsical, playful elements of the podcast. Although this is quite minor, I wonder just a bit about how this type of podcast would actually put children to sleep. (My niece is 9 months old, and she might be way too amazed at this to worry about sleeping lol). All in all, this is such a wonderful idea and the story you wrote is amazing on its own. Your voice is so soothing, the image is on par with “sleepy time”, and the content is perfectly geared towards your concept. Awesome job!
Hi Ana!
This is such a cute podcast, I especially love that you wrote the story yourself! Its amazing that you got to bring a previous assignment to life through this one. Your narration was super great quality, would love to know what mic you used. You also sound like a professional story teller, but still fun and engaging with a poetic cadence. The sound effects, and the amount of them, are a great contribution to enhance the story for children. I would maybe add some soothing music to the intro to kind of set the tone for bedtime. The cover art is very fun and eye-catching for its intended audience, it just needs a 1:1 ratio.
Hi Ana,
I thought this idea was so creative and clever and it really comes across that this idea and vision are yours. I also like the poster: the artwork and the font definitely give off the vibe you are going for. I like the music you chose but maybe I would add a longer hook before you jump right into the content of the podcast, maybe a summary of your channel or something hooking.
