This podcast is designed to be a series of episodes analyzing different literary materials in a relatively “cozy” and easy to understand format to match the stereotype of getting comfortable with a good book on a rainy day. The building of the atmosphere and name of the podcast is also what inspired the sound design of the intro. I found some audio of rain and a door, to simulate the idea of coming in from the rain to discuss bookish topics. I also picked a soft and repetitive piano track to serve as simple (but not distracting) background music. We only had thirty seconds to work with for this project, but I tried to keep my intro to the podcast moving at a relatively slow pace (despite the time restriction) to match a relaxing vibe I wanted to capture.

Rain fell pattering on the balloon. by Sargent, Eugène Cicéri, in the Public Domain
Hey there!
I love the title of this podcast. A rainy day could mean so many different things to people, but specifically for me it entails a good book and a cozy outfit and warm drink for sure. Envisioning a podcast that delves into literary materials, I really enjoyed the pitter patter of the rain and even more so the creaking of an old door – I could really feel like one is coming in out of the rain for this chat. I didn’t really notice the piano in the background until I read the description, which then brought that light ambiance into play for me. Personally, I feel like it could be a bit more noticeable, but that could just be a personal preference. Additionally, for a rainy day podcast, I felt like the narration was a bit monotone, although it could allude to the material of “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson; a short story that gives off that eerie and depressing vibe. This is something I think could generate a large following, considering the mixture of “cozy” and literary material. It would appeal to a specific group of people of course but would generate interest absolutely. I would personally want to hear which new literature you delve into every week. I would simply suggest something a little more immediately catching for attracting listeners, and possibly a cozier tone to the narration, unless this is implicit due to the covered material. All in all, this is such a great idea. It’s fully encapsulating of your vision of a good book on a rainy day, and ‘The Lottery’ of all short literature is quite an interesting piece to explore. Awesome work!
Hi Nicole!
Your audio was so much fun to listen to! I especially loved how you can hear the rain and that soft rumble in the background. When the door opens and closes and the rain suddenly fades, it genuinely feels as though the listener has stepped inside a house. That transition creates such an immersive and atmospheric storytelling experience; it’s subtle but incredibly effective.
I also really enjoyed the podcast poster you designed. I took a look at the original image through the link you shared, and I think you made a great decision to obscure the balloon in the background with the podcast advertisement. It shifts the viewer’s focus more intentionally toward the drawing of the storm, which beautifully reinforces the “Rainy Days” theme. The overall composition feels thoughtful and cohesive.
Hi Nicole,
Hearing the rain and thunder in the intro already made me want to cozy up with a good book. I would suggest shortening it just a tad and fading it out as the door opens, that way it feels like its leading to your voice and is not as abrupt. Speaking of voice, I think you gave a great, calming narration that still sounds educational.
Overall this podcast would definitely develop a strong audience, as I know myself and others love to hear others thoughts upon finishing a book, especially in a cozy non-judgmental setting, which is exactly what you provide!
Another note, I love when people use paintings within their cover art, definitely adds to the cozy vibes!
Hi Nicole, I like this concept a lot and it seems well thought out and easy to execute on a weekly basis. I think that people would be interested in this topic also. The sound effects are also perfect for the topic but I agree with Amal that it is a little too long; I think it could even stay the same length as long as you fade it out earlier and have your voice fade in o top of it.
