Record stores are one of those places where time travel and instant teleportation are possible. Exploring the global section (my favorite section) and finding music, artists, and songs I’ve never heard of before is just like going on a journey. My mind fills with questions: What is this artist doing now? Are they even still alive? Did they ever think their song would reach someone in the United States fifty years after its release?
While the photo Standing In Line on Record Store Day 2014 (Explored) by Seth Anderson was taken around 10 years ago, the black and white editing made it appear more vintage. Once I looked closer, I could clearly see the photo’s modernity by the posters (I see you Coldplay) and contemporary fashion. I decided to go along with the perceived “vintage” theme anyway and chose the funky rock song “Wah Game Loop” by Kevin MacLeod, imagining the music sounding through the speakers as patrons browsed the record store.

Alih, I was instantly transported back in time with this combination of photo and music that you chose. My first instinct, when seeing the picture was that it was from the 90s. The black & white photography, mixed with the record store location gave off that retro feel. Adding in the funky beat of “Wah Game Loop” by Kevin MacLeod really struck the vintage vibe you were going for, and I reassed, wondering if it was maybe even a picture from the 70s! The fairly generic outfits creates a timelessness to this image that makes it difficult to date. I was shocked when I noticed the title, and you mentioned it was from 2014. This was a great way to showcase how record stores can transport us to the past!
Sorry, I submitted before finishing!
While I think your musical selection is spot on, you could have played into other eras, such as a grunge sound to make it feel more 90s, or a synth-pop selection for the 80s.
Hey Alih! Viewing your post gave me a sense of nostalgia and joyous energy. The black and white image alone gives off the vibe that the image is timeless and vintage, although as you take a closer look, their fashion sense and the art in the store suggest a more modern time. The audio by itself feels very 70’s and funky, and gives a hippie beat. Together,
I feel as though the music gives the photo a whimsical and cinematic vibe. It feels as if I am waiting in line with them to purchase a record or a cool poster. The sound definitely enhances the feeling of record collecting and looking through timeless pieces before deciding to purchase something. It definitely reminded me of my last visit to a record shop in Washington, D.C., where it felt just as timeless as your post. I also enjoy finding artists and songs that I have never heard of. It makes me appreciate the art of music more, as well as wonder how each artist is doing while finding joy in their music. While there is nothing wrong with your audio choice, I could also imagine jazz or classic rock music being played as well to see how urban that would make the image feel.
