Garrett The Garbage Man Garrison
Introduction
Good afternoon, everyone! My name is Jorge Sanchez. I was raised in Miami, FL and have been living in Orlando, FL, where I went to the University of Central Florida for what my parents thought was way too long to complete a dual degree program for Public Administration and Nonprofit Management!
That was a few years back, though, and I decided to jump back into school here at Florida State University to practice the arts of librarianship! That’s right, I am a Librarian in training too, yes just like Rachel Weisz, in my second semester of my Masters of Science in Information! I’m also on a couple of volunteer boards, where I work with museums and marginalized groups to bring about a little culture and belonging into the scene, it’s good fun.
In the meantime, I’m picking up and sharpening skills working at a library in Orlando, with a pretty sweet Makerspace. Typically I’m teaching classes, or doing some 3D modeling, or showing people how to use a laser cutter without setting anything else on fire. Up there is me with one of my creations. Down here is a 3D printable unknown box we found on the internet that we use to stuff some tools into, and that’s just one of the few capabilities of the Makerspace!

I’m looking forward to this class due to its focus on design in digital media. As someone who is constantly working with digitized everything, learning the aspect of production for what I see in my everyday life is an exciting prospect.
Hi Jorge! You must live relatively close to me–I’m in Sanford which is near Orlando. Your activities at the library look like a lot of fun. Tell me more about what you’re holding in the top photo! It would be great if the photo was a little larger and clearer so viewers can see what you’re holding! I like how you trimmed the top photo to create the rounded corners and it’s nice to see your face! Which museums are you connected with? I’d love to hear more about what you’re doing with the museums more specifically (working in a museum is my ultimate goal). As a member of the volunteer board, how often are the meetings and how many other people are on the board? It’s nice to “meet” you and I look forward to hearing more about your work!
Hello Jorge, I really enjoyed reading your blog! It was really cool to find out that you’re also a fellow Librarian Trainee. What do you think of your classes, so far? I’m close to the end of my classes and cannot wait to graduate so I can live my dream of becoming a librarian. It’s great to hear that you also work with museums and teach people how to create models, such as the Minecraft “unknown box”, you have pictured. My kids, love Minecraft, and would definitely be there asking you a ton of questions while building models. Based on your interests in “digitized everything”, I’m sure this class will provide the knowledge you will need to apply in your professional life.

Hi Jorge, I loved hearing about your work towards librarianship! It is so interesting to me that there are so many paths we can take when entering the library field! I focus heavily on Children and Teens so I love to hear what everyone else is doing. I loved seeing your reference to Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison! All your links worked great, I can see your photos well, and you tagged your post correctly. Great job!
Hello Jorge,
I’m so impressed that you’re pursuing a dual degree in Public Administration and Nonprofit Management. Those fields weren’t even on my radar, but Nonprofit Management sounds both meaningful and full of opportunity. And now you’re putting your skills into practice through the art of librarianship, which makes you feel like a walking encyclopedia in the best way. I also love the creative side of what you do—3D modeling, and especially teaching people how to use a laser cutter without accidentally setting anything on fire. That mix of knowledge, patience, and humor is such a gift.
