Hey Everybody! My name is Kenny and I was born and raised in Miami-Dade County, Florida. An interesting thing about Miami is the Coral Castle. It is a monumental structure made from very large and heavy limestone blocks that one man claims to have built yet there is very little known as to how he did it. This picture is of me at El Tazumal, in Chalchuapa, El Salvador and is attributed to the Mayans.
I currently work for the Miami-Dade Public Library System where I am an assistant and working towards librarianship. It is my second semester here at FSU in the MSI program. In my undergrad, I studied fine art and used to photograph with film a lot. I do it less frequently these days, mostly due to cost. I like to collect old books and records as well and enjoy spending time in nature and exploring different cultures.

In this class, I hope to use my skills already obtained through years of photography and apply it to a more conventional and user-friendly design that aligns with the current trends in social media, communications, and libraries. I would also like to expand my knowledge and skills in video editing and production. I have done some in the past, but it has been a while. I am looking forward to working alongside everyone this semester and seeing how our ideas align.
Hi, Kenneth. Wow, the fact you provided about Miami and Coral Castle is super interesting. You sent me down a rabbit hole to learn more about this mysterious building and the man who was able to move such heavy rocks without modern machinery! I also studied art and photography in my undergraduate degree. Where did you get your BFA? I hope to hear some of the techniques you use in film photography and how you will apply them to this class. Best of luck!
Hey fellow Miamian! Thank you for sharing on the Coral Castle – we’re more than a Spring Break Locale! I wish I could put links here for the rest of our group, but if people are interested in Coral Castle, the Vizcaya Castle and Gardens here are also a beautiful site for those interested in art, architecture, history, and the like. Further, I’m sorry to hear you don’t get to practice photography as much anymore, especially because the photos you shared in your post are great shots. In the last one, I know I’m looking at a tree, but I like the direction the shot is taken with the black and white. Anyway, I hope graduating from this program leads to a position that gives you time and resources to continue to hone your skills!
Hi Kenneth! Film photography is so cool to me. I dabble in photography for fun and have a handful of cameras, from film to digital cameras. I bet that was so fun to study within your fine arts program. What old books do you collect? My mother is an English professor, so I’ve gotten some really old, pretty classics from her. I love the information you shared about the Coral Castle in Miami. I’ll have to look into that further! I love unexplained events in history. I find researching and finding unexplainable things that happened throughout history so intriguing. Good luck this semester!
