Hello! My name is Emma and I am a first year graduate student in the Information Science program. I am working to become a librarian after graduation, preferably in an academic setting. I am a third-generation FSU graduate and I received my undergrad degree in Studio Art in 2021. I lived in Tallahassee for almost 20 years and moved to Jacksonville, FL in 2020. I enjoy reading and building my own library collection in my spare time. My favorite books are Kristin Lavransdatter (the title of this post is a quote from this book), Crime and Punishment, and Little Women. I am excited to take this class to build upon the technical skills I learned in my time studying digital media as an art form. I studied photography and photo editing, but I have very little knowledge of audio and video editing.

One of my favorite memories I have from my childhood is visiting Strozier Library with my dad when he was a PhD candidate in the early 2000’s. He would often bring me along to return books on the weekends while my mom was working and I loved walking with him through the towering rows of books and breathing in the smell of old books. As a college student, I often frequented Strozier late at night, enjoying the quiet opportunity to study, read, think, and develop my own beliefs and opinions as an adult. I hope as a librarian to contribute to the culture of independent thinking and the protection of information. I’m looking forward to growing as a student in this class and connecting with others in Information Science!
nice post!
Hey Emma, how do you like Jacksonville? i plan to move up to north Florida eventually but have always had my eyes set on Gainesville due to the slower pace of things. Yeah that rabbit hole can go on for a bit especially if you link it to ancient cultures, haha. Awesome tidbit about the libraries and your nostalgia with them, it feels very familiar. That’s awesome that we both studied photography, i went here locally in Miami at FIU. Also excited to see how your posts turn out!
Hi Kristin – thanks for sharing about yourself. I loved this post! I liked that you used your links to direct to your favorite books on Goodreads (I’ve added “Kristin Lavsrandatter” to my to-be-read). I also love the photo featuring Monet – I had the pleasure of going to see an interactive museum on Renoir and impressionism in Kansas earlier this year, and the art style makes me yearn for a world that’s shown by these artists. It also gave you an opportunity to work with creating a caption, along with adding bold and italics into your blog post, so I am already seeing that you have a good eye for creative design. I love working in an academic library, so I hope you continue to enjoy spaces like Strozier and elsewhere!
Hi Emma! I live in Tallahassee now, but grew up outside of Jacksonville and went to UNF for undergrad. What all did you learn with Studio Art as a undergrad degree? I don’t recall hearing that as a major that often! That’s so sweet that your dad brought you along to the library with him. I think my love of libraries started with my mom, who is an English professor and would bring me to sit in class with her and to the local library. I love your picture with Monet’s Waterlilies, I went to Monet’s house in France in 2024.
