My fictional podcast, “Whodunnit Hour,” is a place you can listen in to hear about all kinds of mystery novels. The podcast provides reviews and discussion around mystery books, both popular books and ones you may never have heard of. For this particular episode, I was referencing the book Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. I opened the audio with the ambient sound of a spooky forest. This helps set the scene that we’ll be talking about creepy things. I follow that with my spoken introduction to the podcast. I closed the audio with some suspenseful music, as I hear many podcasts play music after the intro. I tried to set the scene that the podcast would be spooky, but also campy and fun.
Hi Olivia! First off let me say I love the owl hooting at the intro to start a “Whodunnit hour.” It captures the tone of mystery of a whodunnit but also some of the humor and campiness you mention, as we know that it’s the owl that asks “Who?” I also think the format of this podcast would work really well for the subject matter, as I feel that these types of novels are best when they are the perfect “bite-sized” reading. I liked that you led with a sound effect to transition to your speaking and then used music for the outro of this clip. It felt well put together overall! I think you’d probably have a young adult to adult audience, as it would largely be based around people who also enjoy this genre. Since books naturally lend themselves to discussion and podcasts, this more niche focus on a specific genre would fill the question-mark shaped hole potential listeners would be looking for! Well done!
Hi Olivia,
Great podcast intro and choice of sound effects as well. I appreciate how you edited your podcast because you were able to create a smooth transition from sound effects to your voice without it being distracting. The substile poking fun at or humorous way of using the owl sound effect helped to capture the meaning of this podcast. I appreciate how you included music in the outro versus the beginning, which set this podcast intro apart from the others that I have listened to. Overall, I think that this could be a very popular podcast and that this podcast intro was well edited.
Stellar podcast intro, Olivia!
Hi Olivia! This is totally a podcast that I would listen to in my free time! I love reading mystery and thriller novels and it is my favorite kind of audiobook to listen to. I thought that you did a great job with the volume of the music, sound effects, and your voice. You also have a very crisp voice that was easy to understand but matched the spooky vibe that you were going for. I have never heard of the book Sharp Objects, but will have to look into it! With the combination of the owl sounds and the forest vibe, I felt like I was camping, going around and telling spooky stories. Love it!
