My cat is my favorite little creature ever. She is often the first person I interact with in the morning and the last one before I fall asleep. I have always loved the color green, especially a nice lime green, but when I got Luna at 13 years old, green took on a new meaning. I associate that particular shade of green with life, happiness, and head butts. For this assignment I chose this image because I thought her eyes really popped in it. I cropped the original image so that her head was lined up with the center of the left grid line according the rule of thirds. The cropped image brings more focus to her cute face and vibrant eyes, with the added bonus of cutting out the messy state of my room and that massive dust bunny.
Hi Grace,
Wow, your cat’s eyes are stunning! I think your crop helps to fully focus in on Luna and her dramatic eyes. In the original, the first thing I notice is the top of her cat post, especially when scrolling down the blog post. However, by cropping that and some of your room out of the photo, I am drawn to her first, especially her eyes. While her eyes are noticeable in the first photo, the second photo captures them in a manner that is more dramatic, causing them to pop out.
Looking at the photo I wonder how it would look to crop it even more, maybe cropping out the star and the cowboy boots, so that the image zooms in even more on her head and amazing eyes. If you have enough pixels to work with to crop it even more, I would be intrigued to see how that could increase the focus on Luna and her eyes. I am wondering if that would make them pop even more.
Great job!
Hi Grace! What an adorable cat! Her eyes definitely pop more in the cropped version of the photo. I agree with what Caitlin said above; if you have enough pixels, I would love to see a tighter crop, cutting out the boots and the star. This would leave you with a simpler background. You could also play with brightness, contrast, and shadows in editing software to blur or mute the colors in the background which might make her eyes pop even more.
What a sweet post, Grace! Your cat’s eyes are so stunning, and the way you cropped the photo really helps bring attention to her face. I agree with Caitlin that the crop makes her eyes pop more by removing distractions like the cat post and the room. Using the rule of thirds was a smart choice!
I could suggested cropping even tighter to focus even more on Luna’s face, which could make her eyes stand out even more if you have enough resolution. Luna clearly means a lot to you, and the way you captured her is really special. Great work!
