Hello All!
My name is Sarah Perkins (Quijada) and I live in Jacksonville, Florida. I believe heavily in the saying “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover” but I also believe Elle from Legally Blonde when she says “Books with tattered covers (or boring books) stay on the shelves.” So I hope you find the cover to my book interesting enough for a read. I am newly married with a young step-son, as well as a dog and a pet turtle. I am an Alumni of UNF with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Ed. and a Florida State Staff Credential in Early Childhood Ed. I am currently a VPK teacher to 4 and 5 year olds at the UNF Preschool , but I have taught in many other schools and many other grades. I have been teaching for about 7 years, but unfortunately the system has taken it’s toll on me and I will be leaving the profession very soon. I am currently studying Library sciences here at FSU with the intent of becoming a children’s librarian (hey, I can’t be expected to give up working with kids forever!). As far as hobbies go, I love to cook and bake with friends and family and I like trying my hand at making my own versions of my family’s favorite foods (Oreos, fruit snacks, birria tacos, bread, etc). I also am a ballroom dancer with Monarch Ballroom here in Jacksonville. Some of my favorite dances include; Salsa, Bachata, Swing, Waltz, Cha Cha, and Rumba. Finally, I also have a love for all things books, reading, and learning! While I love the feel of a physical book in my hands, I have come to appreciate the use of eBooks and audio books- I am a big fan of Audible! This concludes the “summary” on my personal book cover. I hope you enjoyed the brief glimpse of me- I can’t wait to get to work with and get to know you all.

Hi Sarah! It’s nice to meet you! I feel like I recognize your name from one of my classes last semester. It was really interesting to read about your background in elementary education! I’m sure that experience will serve you well in being a children’s librarian. I’d be curious to hear about how different your experience in those two roles is. I’m also an avid baker! Although I feel like I experience a baking lull after the holidays LOL. I’d be interested in hearing your oreos recipe! Sounds delicious!
Thanks Olivia! I have loved to bake since I was a little girl. My grandmother, great aunts, and mother taught me how. I also got into cooking when I moved out of my parents and got tired of microwaved ready meals. As of today, I made my first attempt at homemade goldfish crackers and homemade fruit snacks for my son. We may have had similar classes. I took Graphic Novels with Dr. Don Latham last semester. I also took a marketing class.
Hello Sarah, or shall I say “neighbor”? My wife, on-the-way baby boy, and I are also in Jax. Congratulations on your newly made vows as well. Marriage is such an awesome adventure. Also, I’d like to say a sincere thank you for teaching for the last seven years. Teachers are so important to our community as you help mold our future leaders and impart common sense, critical thinking, and values, especially at such young and impressionable ages. Teachers are roles that need to be supported more both financially and provisionally. Wishing you the best in your next profession. In regard to cooking, what is your best source for recipes? Is it TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or the standard Google search? Cooking is a skill I wish I was better at. If I could recommend one critique for our first assignment, it would be to align your images within the post. This can improve the layout and presentation of your post. Thank you again for sharing your book cover.
Thanks Jason! Really cool that we’re both in Jax! I actually get a lot of my recipes via Pinterest! That app is really the only social media I have that I actually log onto on a daily basis. Most of the pinned recipes have links that you can follow to their websites. I also am very much a fan of physical cookbooks and hand written family recipes. I have a recipe for Red Velvet Cake from my Great Great Grandmother.
First of all I love Legally Blonde. My favorite is the 2nd movie. I also like that your a dancer, I grew up dancing so much so I auditioned for a performing arts high school and studied ballet and modern dance. I still dance to this day. How often do you still dance?
I love Legally Blonde! I fell in love with the Broadway version first and then watched the movie. I dance at least once a week, mostly because of finances and time constraints.
