Greeting my fellow scholars and seekers of knowledge! My name is Connor Skaryd. I was born in West Palm Beach, Florida and I spent most of my childhood and teenage years growing up in Martin County, Florida. After high school I decided that I was tired of the warm tropical weather and moved up to the city of Grand Forks, North Dakota to attend the University of North Dakota for my Bachelor’s Degree. Having survived sub-zero winters for my undergraduate degree and learning the feeling of your breath freezing in your mouth from the cold weather, I returned to Florida and through a long and complex series of events, I started working for the Martin County Library System. I currently work as the senior Library Specialist for the Palm City Library where I am functionally the assistant manager of the branch.

Outside of work one of my great passions is playing tabletop role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, and Lancer. I have routinely fallen into the role of a “forever GM” and I find deep satisfaction running games and creating amazing stories with friends that we can enjoy together. I am excited for this class since learning about the use of digital media will be a huge boon for me since I work with digital media in both my professional and personal life. I want to learn the tools and systems that would help me advance my career and the gaming experience I give to my players.
Hi Connor! It does seem like many of us end up in librarianship pretty randomly, I did as well. How long have you been working for Palm City Library? Since you’re a GM, do you ever put on roleplaying programs for kids/teens? We have a huge group of teenagers at our library who play D&D and other games, it’s one of our most popular recurring programs. I can’t see your photo that well unfortunately, but I can make out a table, so I’ll assume you’re GMing there. I wonder what potential digital media has for GMing. You could probably add some cool effects into gameplay like a maneuverable map or even a soundtrack. I myself have always wanted to try D&D, but was introduced a bit too late. I’ll definitely throw some questions about RPGs at you this semester!
Greetings Connor! I love how descriptive you are when talking about how cold it was in South Dakota. It sounds like you eventually learned to appreciate the weather where you grew up, and that is always a good thing. I would be curious to hear about the events that led you to start working for the Martin County Library System in future class posts. On another note, I did not realize there was such a thing as tabletop role playing games. It sounds like a fun way to bond with others while escaping the stresses of this world. It seems like this class would be a perfect fit for you as you continue to build on your creative skills.
Hello Connor! I as well lived in Palm Beach County for awhile myself and loved the tropical weather. Yet I’m not sure if I’d trade it for cold winters just yet. I’m hoping I will get to incorporate digital media into my everyday work as you do when I get into school libraries hopefully by next year! I will also have to look more into Dungeons and Dragons as I also hear that game referenced by people and I’ve never actually played it yet. You seem to know a great deal on libraries and digital media as well!
