Hello everyone! My name is Olivia Samimy and I am originally from Fredericksburg, Virginia. I went to a tiny college called Roanoke College in southwestern Virginia, where I received my BA with a major in Literary Studies and a minor in Communications in 2021.
In 2022, I moved to Tallahassee to complete my MA in Literature, Media, and Culture. During this time, I also served as a Graduate Instructor where I taught Freshman English to FSU students. I graduated from this program in May 2024 and haven’t been able to escape Tallahassee yet. I am currently working as an Academic Advisor at FSU in the Dedman College of Hospitality, where I help guide undergraduate students through their degree. I started my MSI last semester, and my goal is to become an academic librarian. I love working with college students so I look forward to continuing to do that in my career.
As is probably unsurprising for someone like me, I love to read. My favorite genres are mystery and fantasy. You can check out my Goodreads account to see what I am currently reading. My other favorite activity is to be out in nature. If you live in Tallahassee, you may know we have an incredible park system. My two favorite places to hike are Maclay Gardens State Park and Lafayette Heritage Trail. You can find me at a park any weekend where we’re blessed with weather below 90 degrees. If it’s too hot for hiking, I like to make the drive to St. George Island and sit on the beach.
When I am not enjoying the fresh air, I try to keep my two cats, Honey and Bessie, out of mischief. At this, I am mostly unsuccessful.

I loved your article and your kitties! I do not have a cat yet be I have had them in the past, and you are right; they are very hard to keep out of mischief! I love to read mystery and fantasy also; some of my favorites include any of the Poirot mysteries by Agatha Christie, any type of cozy mystery, The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, and books that are twists on fairytales of have fairytale elements, like any books written by Shannon Hale. If you’re wondering what a “cozy mystery’ is, its a mystery story that is set in a quaint little town, with a romance blooming in the background and MURDER in the middle of it all. I most recently finished The Seaside Cafe Mysteries by Bree Baker, The Cider Shop Mysteries by Julie Ann Lindsey, and started the Christmas Tree Farm Mysteries by Jacqueline Frost (btw, all three of those authors are the same person, but she likes to write under pseudonyms). Hopefully we’ll get to swap more stories in the future!
Hello Olivia. It’s nice to meet you. Of all the books you’ve read so far, what is your all-time-favorite of those read, or what have your read repeatedly the most? I see you favor fantasy; have you heard of the Brandon Sanderson series Mistborn? If you like fantasy, this is a great series to get into. My favorites reads are actually classic short stories like Tell-Tale Heart, The Lottery, Yellow Wallpaper, and Gift of the Magi. As a professional bookworm, what are your thoughts on comic books? I’ve read more comics and graphic novels thus far over traditional novels, however, I guess it’s more from a heart that loves art, color, and visuals, or maybe it’s a sign that I may have a short attention span…squirrel. I tried to think of a recommended critique for our first assignment, but I couldn’t find one for your post. You aligned your images with the text, you properly created hyperlinks, and you separated your content into respective paragraphs. Great job!
So Sarah we have something in common. I am also a bookworm and I can’t wait till I become a professional bookworm. While you want to work as an Academic Librarian I want to work as a Public Librarian. I really like that you enjoy the fresh air, because my favorite thing to do as of late is take walks.
