Coastal Conditions is a monthly podcast for anyone with an interest in human geography. Every month, I will share the details surrounding a coastal community. The podcast will be informational, but also somewhat anecdotal, as I take my listeners around the world to expose them to the variety of relationships between man and water. This specific episode will be about Nantucket, Ma, a small island 30 miles south of Cape Cod. What makes the island significant is it’s status as a summer colony, rich biodiversity, and unique geomorphological conditions. The marketing media is a photo of the “path” to St. Michael’s Mound, which is off the coast of England. The mound exists in an intertidal zone and the walkway only becomes available at low-tide. Certainly an interesting coastal condition!
The Podcast
The podcast makes use of voice, sound effects, ambient sounds, and music. I wanted to evoke the feeling one has at the very start of a trip. That moment when you are just leaving your origin point to head out to sea. The sea gulls, of course, instantly place you near water and the sounds of the flag unfurling and ocean waves set you on course. As we leave the dock, we can still hear the hustle and bustle of the town in the background. You can even hear the music of small tropical band playing in the distance. My narration hints at some of the places we will visit and that I will be your captain!
