It brought me a lot of great memory when I was looking on my personal photos that I took with my iPhone. I choose this photo because it was an incredible experience that I did when I visited my family in Jordan in May,2023. This place called Wadi-Rum it’s a natural treasure that captures the spirit and transcend history is tucked away within the southern region of the nation of Jordan.
“Velley of the Moon” is the nickname for Wadi-Rum. Wadi-Rum is very huge 820 square kilometers and takes long walking to reach specific spot. I remember walking for almost one whole hour me and my family before we reached the tent, but it was worth all that tired.

Wadi Rum’s arid sky becomes a heavenly work of art as dusk descends. Without the distraction of lights from the city, me and my family was walking outside our tents to delight in a beautiful show of starlight. At Wadi Rum, starlight is more than simply a pastime; it’s a cosmic encounter that strengthens one’s sense of awe for the immensity of the cosmos.

Sounds like a great trip! It’s interesting how cropping the image to remove the ridgeline heightens the desert aspect of the scene – almost makes me feel like we’re on Mars now! Another way you could have cropped the image would’ve been to put the group of people in the bottom third of the photo which would have removed the ridge in the foreground but kept the ridgeline in the background.
When using your own photos, I recommend adding a copyright notice to your image or alternatively a link to the Creative Commons license you would like to apply to your image – that way your reader knows for sure what protections might apply.
And don’t forget to tag your posts, it makes them a bit easier to find. There are some comments in the Peer Support discussion board on different ways to do this if you want to check those out.
I agree with Linnea, your images make it look like we are looking at a base on Mars! The ground is magnificent, I like how bright it is. It doesn’t cease to amaze me how different parts of the world can look like something we could never imagine or in other words, otherworldly! If you told me this was from a Star Wars movie, I’d believe it. Sometimes when cropping images, it’s hard to avoid pixelation issues so pictures get blurrier the more you manipulate them by cropping. Hopefully, there is a way to sharpen the image because I think it would capture the effect of your photo clearly.
Hi Dina! I am fascinated by your photos of the “Valley of the Moon”! Except for the red color which reminds me of the red dirt around Tallahassee where I live, I can honestly say that I’ve never seen anything like the area shown in your original image. I agree with others who have commented that the pictures look like stills from any of the Star Wars movies, like they’re from another planet, not someplace on earth. In your cropped picture, I like that you focused on the tents, but getting rid of the mountains in the background makes it a little bit hard to tell that we are looking at a valley. And I’m not sure about the trucks and the white buildings (or maybe more tents?) in the foreground. I wonder why you chose to emphasize them. You mention that this is a photo from a family trip; did you feature your family in the photo? Are they the people walking in the middle of the picture? And I am wondering about the rule of thirds and what you wanted to focus on when you cropped the original image to get the derivative. Maybe you could explain a little more of the story of why you cropped the photo the way you did. Also, I’m not really sure what the third picture has to do with the other two – are you just show-casing the night sky? It’s a little hard to connect it to the other two pictures, since they were taken in daylight. It might have been fun to try cropping a night sky photo to go more with the story in your blog.
I also love the unearthliness of the photos. It is incredible how different various parts of the world can be. Thank you for sharing this photo. I am confused about the purpose of the crop. Why did you choose to focus on the truck and the people walking? Why not on the mountainous background? I feel like this crop needed a stronger purpose.
