I found this image from my friend’s wedding held on a cloudy, yet perfect day in the Georgia mountains. I wanted to capture the new married couple walking into the reception area. I wanted to crop out unnecessary and distracting details, such as the handicap sign and the large area of sidewalk at the bottom of the photo. In cropping those two areas out, it allowed the couple to be the focal point of the photo. I also wanted to ensure the reception area was still visible, with guests and the decorations, as it adds important context to the photo. I chose to leave a little bit of the sidewalk at the bottom to show they were walking in through a path of some sort. Overall, cropping this photo helped create a clearer photo with less distracting details for the special day.
Use of cropping tools:
- Crop Emphasize Focal Point of couple
- Leaves out unnecessary details
- Ensures that humans are cropped at eye level
- Crop for emotion
Hello, your use of cropping to remove the distractions on the right side was very smart, but I loved how you also cropped out the lower portion of the photo as well. By doing that, it almost changes the mood of the photo. In the first photo it feels as though someone is watching from very far away, and it is a less intimate experience. The cropped photo however, feels as though you are in on a quiet moment in which the couple is have a quiet moment just before they walk in to the reception. The cropping brought us in closer to them, which is really nice. It also took away some of the more drab colors in the original image and made it more vibrant. I like that they are now in that lower third of the image as well. A large portion of the color is contained in that portion of the photo which is nice.
Weddings are so lovely. The day looks gorgeous for those two. The first detail I noticed in the second photo was the red color difference of the mulch. I almost didn’t see that handicap sign removed along with the bystanders. You did a great job enhancing the overall quality of the photo. I think the photo quality would limit me here, but I would love to see the bride’s hair paired with the dress she is wearing that day.
Weddings are a day that will be remembered, this was a beautiful moment that you captured for the couple! Removing any unnecessary distractions is most definitely something that I would have done and I don’t see how else the photo could have been cropped, as I believe cropping the bushes from the left side would have taken away from the scenery and setting of the photo. You made a great effort in magnifying and getting a closer image of the couple.
