Selection Choices
This image popped up in a search for cozy reading and encompasses everything that I envision in a comfy, cozy weekend: a fall, rainy day, snuggled up on the couch with candles burning, a good book, and a relaxing drink. There were several rainy sound choices to choose from by the same creator, TRP. I chose 220822 because the rain was loud enough to be heard on the roof with just a touch of thunder in the background. It sounded like the perfect amount of rain without being an annoying mist or a torrential downpour.
Enchancement
The visual and the audio truly enhance each other by immersing you in the experience. Listening to the rain while viewing the photograph makes you feel like you are really sitting at the window, gazing out at the rain while you take a break from your book. The photograph without the sound is still beautiful, but the beauty is magnified when multiple senses are at work. The audio alone is just listening to a clip of rain, but added on top of the photo, it becomes a close-up of relaxation.
I have always liked the rain and my favorite thing to do when it rains is to snuggle up in my blanket and watch the rain. The image you chose was comforting to me maybe because I wear glasses and the picture had glasses in it lol. The audio enhances the effect created by the image and gives you a sense of comfort. I think the other audio that might create the sense of comfort would have been smooth jazz being played in the background.
Hi Tracey! The sound of actual rain goes really well with the image you chose of rain on the window with a book and hot beverage! I also love curling up by the window when it’s raining to read or watch TV (or work on homework for class!). I know people who like to sit on the porch and listen to the rain (especially when the porch has a tin roof), but something about being inside when it’s raining makes me feel a sense of safety, being cozy and dry and able to watch from a distance instead of being outside in all the chaos. I should also mention that rain makes me feel sleepy sometimes, especially wrapped up in a snuggly, warm blanket, so I’m glad that you found a sound track with some thunder and loud enough rainfall to create a sense of anticipation rather than sleepiness. Instead of a track with the sounds of a storm, and violent thunder which could be jarring and make me anxious, the image and sound pair you have chosen are comforting and make me want to curl up and keep reading.
Hi Tracey, I agree that these two files go great together. I think the rain audio is the perfect sound for a fall rain. It might sound weird but growing up in Florida you learn the difference between a summer storm and a cozy fall rain. Listening to it and looking at the photo I could feel the cold weather. I think another direction to have gone with this couls have been to play something more instrumental and musicly adaptive. When I look at this photo I think of looking out the window reminicing on memories. So maybe a sound that encorporates that feeling.
Hi Tracey! I can’t speak for everyone and I know not everyone will agree but I love the fall season in Florida, we will get the occasional rain shower but it is not as brutally hot as the summer months. I am one of the people who will watch the rain from the window in the comfort of my own home, all snuggled up and in bed. A very solace image paired with a relaxing sound. The sound you chose enhances the image and makes one feel it from within.
