For as long as I can remember I have loved being surrounded by trees. The forest has always been a magical place to me and a place to let my imagination roam free. My steady diet of fantasy books fed this fascination. As kid I could find fairies and dragons anywhere. I chose Forest Pond by Zoë Bijl, because it brings me into the woods.
The audio adds a bit of wonder to this forest photo to bring in the magic, transforming it into an enchanted forest with the light piano and the bird sounds. The sound of the synth about 30 seconds in makes me think of 80s fantasy movies like The NeverEnding Story.
I can also picture myself, toes in the water, just thinking and dreaming of far off places with this music playing in the background.
Hi Hannah,
This is a beautiful image with a beautiful matching audio. This audio indeed lends a sense of wonder to the image. By itself, the image feels tranquil and serene. The added audio does what you wanted; it alters the image somewhat to make me think of something mystical, rather than just serenity. The music is serene by itself, though. I’m not sure how two things that evoke feelings of serenity separately combine to create the feeling that something magical is happening in this place. But perhaps it is my own bias; I, too, grew up on fantasy. To transform this image into something else entirely, if you had a melancholic audio, it may give the impression that this is one of the last natural places left. Very interesting combination!
Excellent post, Hannah! The longer I listened to the song while looking at the picture, the more I felt everything connected. I also felt a sense of peace. So, what I’m saying is mission accomplished! And after reading your thoughts on how these two pieces relate, I can totally see that, too. At first, I didn’t make the connection to anything fantastical, but you’re right; there is something inherently magical about being surrounded by trees. Great work!
Dear Hannah
It’s wonderful to hear how deeply you connect with nature and fantasy. Your description vividly brings to life the enchanting quality of forests, a place where imagination and reality merge. The choice of “Forest Pond” by Zoë Bijl perfectly complements this magical sensation. The audio (even the way you describe it), is blending with the forest scene, particularly the touch of nostalgia with the synth reminiscent of classic fantasy movies, is captivating. The image of you by the water, immersed in thoughts and dreams with this soundtrack, really illustrates the power of music to enhance and transform our surroundings into something even more magical.
Thank you for this post, it feels really a journey to the woods, I wonder what else your creativity will bring during this class- and who knows, maybe they are fairies and dragons somewhere deep in the forests, but in a different dimension that not all travelers can see…?
