For this assignment, I wanted to focus on a peaceful atmosphere created by a sunset. Each day life brings us ups and downs and all sorts of challenges and sometimes we feel like the weight of the world is on our shoulders. The picture by Ralph Ai Artis shows a woman meditating beside a tranquil lake with the sun setting in the background. Sometimes we need to still away to a quiet peaceful place alone and reflect. During this time I think about how thankful I am for life, health, and the challenges I face each day. I am thankful because I know prayer, grace, and mercy are with me and nothing is bigger than my faith. This picture reminds me that although it may seem like I am alone, I am not because someone bigger is always with me.
I picked the gentle sound of waves and water lapping at the shoreline. The sound is calming and soothing and reminds me of an early morning walk along the beach during a summer vacation or an afternoon relaxing on the beach with family. The sound of water is relaxing and puts the mind at peace.
A wave of tranquility washes over me when I see this image. The background music used is so peaceful and I feel so serene when I listen to it. from just experiencing the simple image, I am instantly transported. Gone is the stress and urgency of my daily life, and in its place is just peace and tranquility. I see that you also made reference to your faith, which is something that I also hold me and dear. this was a very lovely post. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
Hi Shonda,
I think you nailed your goal of focusing on a peaceful atmosphere. The photo is very serene, and it makes me wish I was a more meditative person!
It’s interesting that you chose an audio file that literally represents the sounds you would hear at a lake rather than something like a peaceful piano melody to represent the mood. I agree with your take that we all need a quiet place to get away from the stress and burdens of the world.
Shonda,
Our projects are similar in that we talk about the importance of restorative time, as well as accepting help from our community (whether or not that’s family, friends, etc.) when it’s needed. There is also the aquatic element and violet colors, although your selection features many more warm colors which may make viewers feel more comfortable and peaceful as is your intention.
Your audio definitely matches your picture choice well. Some, including myself, chose music that complimented unrelated pictures. The long, steady sample of running water is something we would actually hear in the scenario of the picture, and the repetition is mantra-like, bringing calmness. This reminds me of field recordings, which are probably a thing that is easily findable in creative commons!
