Hello Class! I’m Moneeka, and I am excited to begin this semester with you all!

I am an Air Force Veteran currently living in Dayton, Ohio. I originally hail from Flint, Michigan. I wear many hats – a devoted wife and proud mother of three girls, and an avid reader – with a goal to conquer 100 books this year! I am a passionate fan of the fantasy and paranormal romance genres. If you’re on the Sarah J. Maas and Jennifer Armentrout train, climb aboard, and let’s talk!
Dayton’s Musical Heritage: Exploring Funk Legends
Although I’m from Flint, I appreciate that Dayton is a city bursting with culture and history, and one of my favorite aspects is its rich musical heritage. It’s home to funk music legends like Zapp and Roger (“Computer Love”), Lakeside (“Fantastic Voyage”), and the Ohio Players (“Love Rollercoaster”).
Behind and Beyond the Shelves

I have the privilege of working for the Dayton Metro Library system, the largest in my county. I am enrolled in FSU’s Master of Science in Library and Information Studies program. The classes I’ve taken thus far have provided great insight into my everyday operations in the library.
Beyond my library role, I’m a part-time freelance graphic designer. One of the things that particularly interests me about this class is the opportunity to learn new programs. I’m excited about using WordPress, which is a fresh challenge for me, as I’ve predominantly designed websites on Wix. A couple of my favorites that I’ve designed are Candle and Cole, and Serene Counseling and Wellness.
Exploring this new platform opens up exciting possibilities for my design work and allows me to expand my skill set even further.
Your basic training photo is fabulous Moneeka! Thank you for service then and your continued service now in the public library system. I really like your use of images, video, and different fonts in your blog post – definitely makes for a very visually appealing post which for me makes it all the more engaging to read! It totally makes sense that you’re also a freelance graphic designer and I appreciate you sharing some of the websites you’ve worked on.
I’m also a big fantasy reader though admittedly romance isn’t usually my preferred genre. My sisters though are definitely on the Sarah J. Maas train so I’ve started reading some of her books as well – it has led to some pretty spirited discussions when we all get together! xD
Hello Moneeka! I will gladly talk about Sarah J. Maas and Jennifer Armentrout with you! Paranormal and fantasy romance novels are my absolute favorites, and my best friend finally (strongly) encouraged me to pick up ACOTAR, and I fell madly in love with the world and the characters. I’ve just started reading the Throne of Glass series. I could spend this entire comment talking about books. Your post is very nicely organized, and like Linnea mentioned, the change in font and boldness make it visually appealing. The Candle and Cole website you designed is beautiful and gives you the soothing experience one expects when viewing candles. It’s lovely to meet you, and hopefully we can talk again soon.
Hey Moneeka! Thank you so much for your service!
So, I have only read the first book of ACOTAR. I tried to read the second book, and realized that high fantasy just might not be my thing. But the fan base is so big and is a community in all of its own! Maybe one day, I’ll try to pick it up again one day!
I love that you posted a video about the funk music legacy in Dayton. My husband and I love to listen to funk, especially The Meters.
Beautiful job on the websites you designed! Good luck on your 100-book goal!! 😀
