Greetings from Orlando aka the House of Mouse!
My name is Linnea and I’ve lived in Orlando for 8 years now – which is the longest I’ve ever lived anywhere! As an Army brat I’ve lived a bit all over which definitely sparked my wanderlust from a young age. Even now, I’m always looking for the next travel destination and adventure which this year means a trip to Japan!
I’ve always wanted to visit Japan in part because I’m a HUGE nerd – comic books, anime, sci-fi/fantasy, KDramas – you name it and I’ve probably read/watch/consumed it to an alarming extent. I also collect action figures and other memorabilia so when I tell you I’m hyped to visit Akihabara in Tokyo you better believe it’s to find some exclusive anime merch. Right now you can catch me on Duolingo trying my best to learn some Japanese before my trip so I don’t embarrass myself too badly.

When I’m not geeking out over the latest MCU movie or sci-fi novel, I’m trying my hand at any number of hobbies including baking, biking, tie-dye, rock tumbling, drawing, painting, bead work, crocheting (which has thus far been an epic fail), and origami. In fact, during COVID I made 1000 paper cranes! I’m also an amateur foodie “influencer” on Instagram with a slight obsession for boba tea – if you’ve ever been to Orlando you know we have more boba shops than Starbucks! Orlando was also just voted best foodie city in America and I’m telling you, we more than deserve the title.

It’s probably not very surprising given my interests that my career has also focused on intellectual property. In fact that was my actual career – I was an intellectual property attorney advising clients on trademarks and copyright! And while I love IP (and will talk your ear off about IP), I didn’t necessarily love being a lawyer hence the decision to pursue my Master’s degree. As I explore what comes next for me, I’ve particularly enjoyed the creative courses offered by FSU – last semester I launched a whole social media campaign in LIS 5385 which was a great experience! I wanted to take that a step further and learn more about creating digital content and Digital Media seemed like the perfect fit. I’m excited to work on each of the labs this semester and am particularly looking forward to developing my video editing skills.
Hey Linnea! It’s nice to meet a fellow hobbyist. My hobby is more collecting hobbies. I just ordered some Woobles kits, beginning crochet kits to learn to crochet. (I attempted to hyperlink Woobles but it won’t let me in comments.) Those cookies are absolutely gorgeous! They look like cookies from a professional. The photos you chose really encompass your creativity and sense of self. I, too, am searching for what comes next after completing my degree. You should definitely add baking to the list of possibilities. I also love to travel, but I haven’t been able to explore as much as it sounds like you have. I saw your comment on my post that you are also graduating this semester. Congratulations, and I hope you have the most wonderful time in Japan.
Collecting hobbies – I love that! I’ve really gotten into baking in recent years and that may just be where my path leads me next who knows? But I’ll definitely follow your lead on the Woobles kits and give crocheting another try in the meantime.
Hi Linnea! I am so jealous that you get to go to Japan! That is definitely a bucket list trip of mine. I know I few people who have gone and have absolutely loved it. Also, gotta love Duolingo. Their marketing is next level. I, too, have an endless list of hobbies. My hyper-fixation right now is cross-stitching. I actually just finished my Eeveelution project which took me a few months, but they are super cute! If you ever happen to go into librarianship, you can turn your hobbies into programs, so that you get to share your joy and skills with others!
Hope you have the best time in Japan and enjoy the food!
I am so hyped for Japan it’s not even funny! Even Duolingo getting mad at me can’t stop my enthusiasm lol
Hello Linnea! I loved the three photo spreads you did for your blog! I enjoyed how they boosted your blog content. I had no idea that you could do this and I am excited to try it in my next blog. I love the Ghostbuster car (where is that??) and the Spock print on your wall (I’m a Trekkie too- I’m watching it right now!)
I’m excited that you get to travel to Japan! I hope you get all the exclusive Anime things on your trip! Also, I had no idea that Orlando was a foodie city! I’ll have to go back and experience this sans children. Good luck to you on the rest of your Master’s Journey and all the rest your travels take you on.
Hi Moneeka! I had to use WordPress for a class last semester so I’ve had some fun learning different features and am trying to get creative with it this semester.
I saw the Ghostbuster car at Tampa Comic Con last year! There are a couple of them that make the rounds at different conventions and they’re always fun to spot. And that Spock print is actually a painting by my sister! She’s a super talented artist – you can see her work on Instagram at @art.loeb
Wow, Linnea. Being an Army brat has its advantages. You’ve had to move around and about but was at least able to visit different places before Orlando became your home. I hear you when you mentioned going to Japan. What an awesome choice and place.
I also like sci-fi/fantasy along with my son. I don’t collect figures, but he did when he was younger. I think that is a cool idea, and judging by your collection, you have been at it awhile and have a fabulous collection. Great pictures and story.
Being an Army brat definitely sparked my love for traveling and exploring new places!
Glad to meet another sci-fi/fantasy fan and thank you for the compliment on my collection. It’s going on two decades strong now and doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon 😀
