“Just Beet It” is a weekly fantasy baseball podcast that showcases the league members of the “Schrute Fantasy Baseball League”. If you did not know, the “Schrute” name and “Beets” are references to the television show called “The Office” with the quirky character Dwight Schrute as a main character and who is also the owner of a beet farm. Every week a new episode is released featuring league member player profiles, Major League Baseball news, Fantasy Baseball matchup analysis, and a “Hard Talk” segment with one of the league managers. The managers are interviewed and asked about recent team management moves and their thoughts on other league news. Break out your headphones as you journey into mystery and listen to one of the most entertaining fantasy baseball podcasts around.

This podcast makes use of sound effects, voice overs, and music. I used the “Highlight Reel Short” from iMovie as the introduction music as it was fitting for a sports related podcast. We gave our hosts Kevin “The Commish” and “Statman” Grant a round of light applause from our studio audience using “Clapping Crowd Studio 01” from iMovie. After fading the applause, our host Kevin “the Commish” opens with a greeting and introduction for “Statman” Grant as the guys get ready to talk about the upcoming weeks fantasy baseball action.

David, being completely transparent, I do not know anything about fantasy teams and how they function. Therefore, my first thoughts when reading through your description consisted of questions like, how many league member player profiles could be featured? What does a league manager do? Because I’m a bit ignorant to this topic, I questioned whether or not there was longevity for the podcast. However, I do believe that fans of “The Office”, baseball, and fantasy teams would enjoy tuning in to the updates you have to offer. It would be fun to include guest appearances from the Schrute family as you go.
Your use of intro music and audience clapping created an upbeat vibe that I feel resembled other sports programs. Since the logo doesn’t give an obvious sports vibe, the music does a good job at helping the listener understand the direction of the podcast. Your voice over technique was well done, and I like that you incorporated more than one speaker in your 30 seconds.
As far as technical concerns, is it possible to link the clapping and highlight reel music? I see that you used iMovie and were able to link the license, but the individual soundbites are not linked. In addition, it may be helpful to resize your logo to a 1:1 ratio since that is how it would appear on Spotify or other streaming services.
From the title and picture, I thought this was either a spoof podcast about Dwight Schrute or an actual podcast about farming, so I was surprised to read and hear that it was about Fantasy Baseball. This might have been intentional, but maybe not, in your image potentially including something related to baseball would give a greater tip-off to someone scrolling through podcasts a clue to the content.
This podcast will have no issues with content as Fantasy sports and baseball, in general, have TONS of things to discuss from matchups to stats (so many stats) to general fodder. The concept of the podcast is great and I know it would garner an audience of fans dying to know which teams are pulling up to the top and who’s dropping to the bottom. I liked that you incorporated multiple voices in your first 30 seconds, and set the tone of the conversational nature of your podcast.
It’s cool that iMovie has some built-in sounds, but it would have been nice to see some creative commons assets also included in there, maybe the sound of a bat hitting a baseball, or the roar of a home crowd?
Overall this podcast hits the mark of light, yet is packed with potential content and humor. I’d be interested to learn how the Office jokes would get layered into the baseball talk, and how serious would the overall conversations be. Based on the intro music and the generic clapping, I took a sarcastic read on the overall tone of the content.
