The original image is from a trip to Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida. My friend and I decided to go to all the animal exhibits to check out all the different types there were around. This giraffe in particular caught my attention as I was taking pictures as it looked as though it had spotted me looking at it. However, unfortunately the area we were in was fairly crowded with tourists and the picture had to be taken behind someone else with their hand ending up in the frame.

Here in the Rule of Thirds cropped image, the giraffe becomes the main focus in frame while also emphasizing its glare towards the camera angle. Additionally, you are still able to note its size relative to its surroundings and shadows. Unfortunately, I was unable to adhere both to the Rule of Thirds while also cropping out the person’s hand and giving the viewer a more emphasized photo.
Hello! Busch Gardens is such a cool place to visit. I haven’t visited in years, but I remember it being extremely crowded. Honestly, I’m impressed your original photo only had one tourist taking up space in it with the number of people I bet where standing around you at the time. You did a great job removing them all while making sure that the focal point stayed directly on the subject of the photo, the giraffe. It really jumps out at you as where to look on the second photo which is a huge change from the tourist’s hand standing out in the original. Great job!
The giraffe’s face is making me laugh. Almost as if you are the one in the Zoo and he is looking at you! As for the cropping, not only did it remove some of that hand in the way, but it also made the space look smaller. It took the emphasis away from the nature and put it on to the giraffe. I don’t think I would have noticed the giraffe’s facial expression if you hadn’t done that. The way the giraffe is learning the edge of the photo does make him look a little crowded. I wonder how the photo would feel different if the giraffe was leaning into the open space instead. Maybe would feel more open and free. Just a thought!
Hi James, nice title! I thought it very creative and funny. The before picture is cool but the hand is the focus of the picture so I liked how you cropped it to make the giraffe the focus. You even took out piece of the green metal on the right so it’s clearer to see the giraffe unlike the before photo.
Thinking about it now, I don’t see how you could have made anything else the focal point of the picture. The hand by itself isn’t interesting and other than the trees I’m not sure what I would have done. You couldn’t cut the hand out completely because it would have affected the giraffe’s head.
