When looking for images, I searched for an image that could be defined as interesting and alive, and when I saw the above photo, I knew I had struck gold. When looking at the picture, I could see it being a crowd at a concert, a rally, or even a group waiting for a speaker. The image provides the viewer with the chance to experience many different stories depending on the person you focus on in the photo, and that is what I loved so much about it. The viewer gets to see the images through their own eyes, not just the photographer’s.
My eyes went to the person with the phone. They are so focused and staring intently into what is being recorded that I imagined it being an exciting basketball game outside with loud commentary from the players. It reminded me of the times my brother would record basketball games and go home to dissect each play of the game we just watched because he enjoyed the game so much. Listening to the audio while looking at the picture brought back the feeling of being in that sports atmosphere during a very close game. It is a different feeling, an electric one.
So pairing the image with the sounds of an exciting basketball environment paired well to bring the story I chose to tell when I looked at the picture. I would like to hear from you about your thoughts! Share in the comments what thoughts come to mind when looking at the image. Do you see what I see or something different?
Wow. I like this photo AND the audio you chose! I also was drawn to the individual with the phone first thing, then looked closely around the center of attention. Some seriously expressions, some welcoming, laid back, relaxed expressions, overall it does remind me of a group waiting outside of a sporting event where athletes arrive from the bus, or a concert where you know the artists will be entering or exiting. The slight tilt of the frame lets you feel this is fun event about to occur and even causes the sense of slight movement occurring amid the crowd, with just that tilted perspective. When I came to the audio, it is so full of depth! I love the varying conversations, sounds of action, definitely occurring on many levels, which help layer the various individuals we see in the photo. I instantly remember this moment, when I was in New York City, walking past Booker T Washington Middle School, and across the street huge fenced off areas for basketball. I was taking in the scene when I walked past, as there were at least 4-6 different groups of adults, teens, all ages playing basketball, talking, joking, alot of activity at once and the hum of the various conversations just drew you in. I felt this way when seeing and hearing the choices you made. Very well done.
Latasha, I don’t think you could’ve picked a better combination. The picture alone made me believe they were watching either a speech or a concert. Paired with the sound, I could definitely see them being at a basketball court like you mentioned. Putting a speaker in the background or even a large event could also enhance the image.
I found the picture you chose to be very thought provoking and could contain different meaning to the viewer depending on which person they chose to focus on. The audio pairs very well and it does indeed give you the impression of being at a basketball game or other sporting event. I really loved your title “SportsCenter Live.” The audio really does give one an authentic feeling of being at a basketball game in NYC! Having been there only a few months ago, the city is an alive place, and I think this really sets the tone with what you’re trying to accomplish with this pairing. Great work!
