My name is Nicole Damstetter, and I’m a mom, dog mom, Trekkie, wife, friend, and bibliophile (to name a few things). I’m a transplant to Orlando, Florida from Boston, Massachusetts, thanks to my husband and his family. My move down to Florida inspired my parents to retire nearby and now we’re trying to convince my brother and sister to leave the cold north winters for the year-round sunshine.
I currently work as a Director of Professional Services at Salesforce, leading a team of architects designing and implementing technology for our Public Sector customers. I’ve been with Salesforce for almost 6 years, first as an architect, and now as a leader. I am passionate about using technology for good, and love being able to support my team grow professionally and technically, and see the impact we’re creating directly with our customers.
When I’m not working or studying, I enjoy reading (currently mostly fiction), playing outside with my daughter and dogs, visiting the beach, and listening to Taylor Swift.
I enrolled in the Master of Information Science program in 2020 to continue my education, and dive deeper into learning about school and public library operations and programs. I’m looking forward to stretching myself creatively in this class and learning a few new tech programs.
Nicole – I KNEW I knew you, back again! I am curious how you became involved with the architect side, or if that was something you were always interested in. While I like the all- year weather and miss that about Mexico, I do love the cold at times to be able to have a reason to crawl under covers, see from the inside, and enjoy reasons to dig deep into books 🙂 Curious of what tech programs you feel most comfortable with now?
Good to see you again Harry! I totally accidentally fell into Salesforce Architecture and became a self-taught architect. It’s a happy accident.
Hi, Nicole! It’s exciting to meet another Trekkie—which Trek is your favorite? My top two are Deep Space Nine and the Original Series, but they all have their advantages. One of the best parts of working in a public library, in my experience, is that we get to see an immediate positive impact on our library patrons (when things go well, of course!), so I really relate to that part of what you’ve said about your current work. Are you interested in a particular part of public librarianship, like youth services?
Victoria I am an Original Series die-hard (one of my dogs is named Spock), but I also love Next Gen and have enjoyed all the reboots like Discovery, Strange New Worlds, and Picard. In terms of librarianship, I am most interested in serving the youth population, I like emerging readers as an age set.
Greetings Nicole! I immediately liked the title of your blog and identified you as a Taylor Swift fan! Her most recent album was pretty successful, but I know many of my friends didn’t like it. What was your take? I’m also a Star Trek fan and have enjoyed the more recent movies. Information architecture is an exciting area to explore– I would be interested in learning more about it myself. Boston is a beautiful and historical city, and I have a considerable amount of family that resides there (plus, Dunkin’ Donuts.. ’nuff said). Is school and library operations where you see yourself going next? I’ve found the library science field to be very interesting and applicable to many areas.
