Off the Beaten Path is a monthly podcast produced by Angela Wylie that focuses on exploring out-of-the-way sites in the United States. Our goal is to get adventurous travelers away from the busy touristy locations and into the natural environment where they can experience the varied and stunning landscapes of the U.S. This episode is dedicated to Washington state’s Olympic Peninsula.
In this podcast episode, I incorporated music, a voice-over, and one sound effect. I used the music track alone at the beginning to bring the listener into the podcast, and then as background to complement the voice-over. I chose a piece that is upbeat and fun to support the theme of the podcast. The music and voice-over provide an introduction to the episode, and after a pause the voice-over picks up to begin the episode with the sound effect of a ferry horn in the background, both of which fade at the end of the excerpt. For the poster, I chose a photo from Olympic National Park that depicts a winding path through the forest. It gives a sense of getting started on a new adventure, and not knowing where it might take you. It also represents the outdoorsy theme of the podcast.

Hi Angela, I like your topic and your title was eye catching. I love taking tours through nature as long as I am not going to get attacked by something lol. I do think you could have used music that was geared more towards the forest with animals in the background but I think you did a great job!
Angela, I want to travel with you!!! I liked your music – it gave me the feeling of going on an adventure. The fog horn was a nice touch as we boarded the ferry. Again, it helped me be in the moment boarding the ferry and the sounds around me. I think your podcast would appeal to adventurous people who like to travel to new places and explore those places. It sounded like your podcast would give some good suggestions of all the things you could do and see on Washington state’s Olympic Peninsula. Your audio levels sounded good – I could hear you well. If I were to make any suggestion, you might reduce the sound level of your song so it is more in the background and your fog horn was a little overwhelming sound level wise for your narration. Overall, I think you did a great job on this assignment!!
