Extra Innings is a weekly podcast created for softball fans by softball fans. Every week your hosts Aleisha and Brian will bring you updates, debates, and intriguing discussions about the world of softball, between the little leaguers making their first steps onto the field, to the professionals who travel the globe representing Team USA. Join us while we cover the broad strokes of the week to week happenings on the field. For today’s episode, we’ll be discussing the NCAA’s 2022 opening weekend. See you on the mound!
For this podcast, I made use of ambient sounds, a sound effect, music, and voice recording. I used the ambient sound of a crowd at a field first, to help acclimate the listener to the feeling of being out at a game. The type of game becomes more apparent shortly after by the added sound effect of a person hitting a ball, and the crowd transitioning to cheering at the play that is happening on the field. I have the music fade in as the crowd cheers and continue as the crowd fades out, and the introduction is made. Then the music fades out after both the hosts are introduced and I let everything center on the voice recording from then on as the main topic of the episode begins.

Hi Aleisha, this podcast sounds really well put together! I like that you even found a cohost, as many of the best podcasts have multiple people having a conversation. It helps draw people in to have multiple voices speak. Your sound effects were spot on too! My only complaint is that the sound effects/crowd noise were a little loud at the beginning, they kind of hurt my ears a bit in my headphones (not badly, just discomfort!). The rest of the volume was fine, so maybe just adjusting the volume contrast a little? Overall this was a really well-done podcast, it almost sounded like a real podcast you could get on iTunes or something!
Hey Aleisha!
Really great concept for a podcast. There are so many sports podcasts out there that are super successful, especially with the conversational aspect you have by bringing in a c-host, so loved that you added that element to it! The rising audio sound of the game, with the ball being hit and the crowd is awesome. I loved how the sound rose to blend in with the music. My only thought would be the overall sound was quite loud and when your voice-over comes in, it’s having to compete with the levels of the music, so maybe just bringing those down. But overall, great concept and great editing!
