I love the ambiance of a coffee house. The smell of fresh brewed coffee filling the room and subdued, jazzy music playing in the background makes for the perfect place to relax, knit, and chat with friends. Visits to many such retreats inspired The Wool Cafe podcast. My passion is wool. I belong to a loosely-knit community of fiber artists from whom I constantly draw new ideas. Its members are so nice and always willing to help with projects. It would be delightful to sit with many of them over coffee and chat. My list of potential guests is really endless, from shepherds to owners of yarn mills, indie dyers, designers and creative hobbyists.
Jen, from Whispering Pines Farm, is a perfect example of that friendly and supportive fiber-arts appassionata. I met Jen at the Rhinebeck Sheep Festival in 2019 where I discovered her beautiful, Shetland-handspun yarn. I immediately fell in love with the soft texture! Jen started her own video podcast and asked me to join her in Episode 7 to talk about the shawl I made with her yarn. So, I selected that same episode 7 for my album art as a nod to her.
The opening of my introduction has the pouring of coffee beans and the background chatter of a coffee house. These are common sounds that create the atmosphere of the setting. Background music is always playing if you take time to notice it. I wanted a track that would give the right mood to the podcast and accurately reflect what you might hear in your local coffee shop. If successful, you can even smell the brew!

Hi Tiffany!
I found this to be quite an interesting topic for a series. I know nothing about wool and its creation, so I would be the perfect audience to learn more. I personally loved the way that you started the podcast with the coffee beans, and then included soft ambient noise for the crowd and soft café music. If I were to give any improvements, I might’ve added the sound of coffee pouring at the beginning rather than just the beans, but I realize it does add something to the feeling of the podcast as “a farm to needles” podcast! I feel like due to its niche scope and the fact that there are other podcasts like this as you mentioned, this would be a concept that would get some attention. I also very much love your album art, it looks very professional in its CARP positioning and works well together.
Hi Tiff,
I am almost sold with the idea of a coffee shop that brings jazz music in the background while people spend their time knitting and chitchatting. This coffee shop will be the perfect place for me to calm down after an intense 12 hrs day. Just a nice cup of joe while listening to good stories. I hope I’m welcome if I decide not to knit!! Before reading the explanation, I listened to the podcast several times to understand all the audio files you introduced. I was able to get the beans and song; the coffee ambiance was not entirely clear, possibly introducing some chatting simultaneously as the music would have brought the room alive. Nevertheless, I am sold on having a place like this to relax, knit and catch up with friends; thanks.
