There is an old saying that says that a picture is worth a thousand words. I took that saying and firmly implanted it in my head. At any given time, there are so many things happening. In the photo below, we see a photo (presumably) of a man standing next to his rickshaw bicycle with motorbikes in front of him. The image is full of life and stories, way more than a thousand. There is so much going on. But what I chose to focus on is the underwear advertisement in the upper right hand corner.

Where is the underwear advertisement? With a quick snip and a focus on the undergarments dangling from a tree branch among the power lines, we end up with a completely different story that we were initially given.

If you crop an image from an image, does it still have a thousand words? In this case, I’d say yes. By cropping the underwear and using grid-lines (on Pixlr.com) to put it in the upper third of the image, we are given millions of possible stories about the underwear, as opposed to the story of the man.
Hi Christopher!
I didn’t see your post in time last week,, so I am commenting now to catch up. I like how you focused on the underwater. It’s not what is expected. The story behind why there is a pair of underwater hanging from wires could be interesting to hear, maybe just as interesting as the man in the rickshaw. How did they get there? How log have they been there Are they a landmark by which other navigate and find their way around the alleys. So many questions over a simple pair of underwater.
Hello Christopher!
I fully expect there to be an advertisement about the Lux Venus brand of undies. No idea what it should be about or how to even propose it, but if you don’t use this image for a mock-ad you should definitely consider it. It is very unexpected to focus on the undies of all things! Admittedly, I would have thought the focus would be on the man and his bike. Maybe even how worn out it looks compared to the others as you’ve pointed out.
I want the man’s story, yes, but the undies? I need to know. Need.
Seeing this post at first I didn’t think that of the underwear would be the focal point of this image instead I thought of the man on the bottom left of the screen. I’m curious how that underwear ended up on that wire. A simple item of clothing a pair of underwear grey with a red band with the name brand Lux Venus. This picture makes you think wanting to get answers of the mysterious underwear hanging on the wires why, how are they there. A very curious photograph Christopher and thanks for sharing.
