For my particular crop I was debating what to do when I found this photo I took hiding in my phone folders. Me and my mother had gone to Wendy’s and were waiting on our food when we suddenly found ourselves with an oversized and far too realistic hood ornament. He got off when we left and was perfectly fine, but it was a real shock when he first hopped on! I kinda couldn’t help but snap a picture to share with my friends to laugh about the situation.
One thing I didn’t expect was one friend assuming that this happened to just be a particularly big bird!
Which lead to think of how I wanted to crop the image, see if there was a way to play up the silliness of that to try and see if he could seem bigger. I remembered my friend mentioning that they were able to correct themselves due to the car hood so I decided to remove that to see if it would work. I think it did! I also tried to omit the building to the side to remove further context clues for the bird’s height…
Now imagine this running you down in the parking lot for your fries!

You have an exciting picture. I imagine the shock of having this bird on your hood while waiting for food. Maybe it was pleading a case, so you don’t order the chicken sandwich, hahaha! At my initial glance, just like your friends, I thought you had a big obstacle in front of you. In my observation of your cropping picture, you were able to get a giant bird, but because of the quality of the camera, you lost the perception, and now it shows as an overlap photoshop. The main character is too far left, causing the street to become a distraction. Personally, I would have chosen to crop to the right third and maintain the building. This creates your visitor’s concept to be more like the emu from the commercials.

Hi, Brianna. This definitely is an interesting shot. It does look like the bird is standing on the asphalt rather than the car hood. I wonder if this would be considered a “merger”? Anyway, I like the way you de-centered the bird and removed the unnecessary foreground (hood and interior of car) when you cropped. This simplified the content and brought the subject closer. And I agree, it tricks the eye into thinking the bird is standing on the asphalt. The cropped image tells a better story. Thanks for sharing it!
