At first glance, this image creates the sense of a busy and crowded scene with lots of people and lots of noise. The audience might be focused mainly on the background because it is in focus, while the taxi is blurry. However, paired with the audio, I wanted to shift the focus back to the taxi and the person inside. The piano music creates a feeling of loneliness and melancholy. I imagine the audience looking through the lens of the one person inside the taxi, seeing the crowds outside passing in a blur. None of them paying are any attention to that one taxi, furthering this sense of loneliness. Additionally, the tempo of the music further emphasized the speed of the taxi as it’s passing all of these people in a blur. I imagine the person in the taxi looking out the window, trying to see the people on the streets but isn’t able to pick any one person out of the crowd.
Hi Emily!
I really like your pairing and found it to be visually and auditorily impressive. Just looking at the picture, I would have expected the audio paring to be loud and exciting, and it made it pause and reconsider once I heard the melancholy minor melody. Another cool effect could have been focusing on the hypothetical person inside of the taxi as you wrote about, perhaps adding in a telephone conversation they were having. The only technical suggestions I have are to link back to the artist and song in the link text and to either make the link clickable or get rid of the unsightly URL and have it directly linked onto the written license. Altogether, however, it looks really really cool!
The photo makes me think of a warm busy night full of people having their own conversations. People all on their way to somewhere. Their bodies all one mass hard to distinguish from one another, only seeing their faces which even they aren’t detailed. The audio alone is soothing and gives a sense of sadness.
I could alternatively see audio could be jazz sounds that would have been present in New York in the past though that would make it feel exciting instead of melancholy . I could also see the sound of quiet whispers like ghosts, things you would never be able to hear in such a loud crowd. I could also see the sound of a single person talking about mundane things, though not muffled by the crowd.
In terms of technical skills, the photo is a good size and the embedded audio works perfectly. Good job!! The only this is the link could have been hyperlinked.
