Nature, fantasy and adventure. Combine those words and you have what I most appreciate about life and the creative process.
Enter nature: a “White White-tailed Deer – fawn – nature – wildlife – animal – autumn” by blmiers2. The image alone stands as a wonderful representation of wildlife. It is not just a simple photo of a deer out in the woods, though. It is a colorful representation that shows that not everything is black and white. Or even brown in this case. When most people look up an image of a deer, they come across one with just brown hair, maybe the occasional white dot or two on their coat. But this fawn shows that not all deer are the same. With its white tail and almost equally white coat, it gives off an appearance of a mythical creature running through those dense weeds and tall grass.
And in my mind, mythical-like creatures can always be found in fantasy adventures. The image even shows that this young fawn is out for a run, its legs moving in a forward direction. And correct me if I am wrong, but is that not a smile on its face? Thus, when searching for the sounds of adventure, humanoide9000‘s “Uplifting adventure music” added to the mythical element I was feeling upon seeing this image. It also adds the adventure vibe as well, making this image feel as though it is on the move, and that young fawn is making its way to new horizons.
Happily, too!
Hi Aleisha,
For this media lab assignment, we had to pick a photo that we thought would pair well with an audio clip we chose. I really love the nature photo you picked of the white-tailed deer. I have never seen a photo of a white-tailed deer, so it was amazing to see.
Also, I could really relate to this photo because I often walk the trails at Southwood located in Tallahassee, FL and I have seen a whole deer family on several occasions. It is always so clamming to see the entire deer family out there eating the grass; however, none of the deer I have seen at Southwood have been white tailed. Are white tailed deer specific to a certain location?
In your post, you also mention 3 words: Nature, fantasy, and adventure. I can see the nature and adventure part, but I was kind of having a hard time seeing how fantasy fits into the picture, but I think the white-tailed deer does seem like a fantasy since I have never seen one and did not know they even existed. Also, I love the audio clip. It reminds me of a sporting competition like the Super Bowl or the music that would play for the NBA or WNBA finals. The audio clip has a feel to me of a competition that is going to take place or is currently taking place. When I think of the deer, I think more of sounds of different types of birds or the rustling of grass or the sounds of animals eating the grass; however, I love how you paired a white-tailed deer with an audio clip that has adventure and fantasy.
I think you did a great job on your blog post. You opened my eyes to seeing nature as adventurous and full of fantasy.
Hello Aleisha!
Your music clip, paired with the image of a deer, did feel like the start of a new adventure! I imagine these deer must either be symbols of good omen for any adventurer lucky enough to catch a glimpse of one bounding through the trees or it could be the loyal steed of an elven princess. Either way, it has me thinking of lush forests and dark secrets.
As you’ve mentioned, most people are only familiar with the brown variety of deer. I’ve seen one too many on late night drives in Florida. They’re quite eerie, especially on foggy nights, but I admire them just the same. I didn’t know that there could be a white white-tailed deer. Nature is fascinating!
