You probably think you know everything there is to goats. Who doesn’t? We all know that goats are the greatest of all time (GOAT) when it comes to animals.

But did you know that goats have been known to perform opera? Probably not.
But I promise you they are.
I’ve been to a goat opera. It was in Hell, though, where goats typically feel most at home. In Hell, goats are some the realm’s best musicians. The goat featured in the photo above is one of Hell’s most famous. His name is “Pretty Baby-waby.” Pretty Baby-waby (PBW) has won the majority of the vocal performance awards in Hell. The photo above is a snapshot of PBW after his first performance. The guy next to him is his agent, I.M. Herderson. I have no doubt that this sounds all weird but if you listen to following recording below, you’ll hear PBW’s glorious and soothing voice.
Indeed, one wonders how this might even be possible. The answer is simple. Goats have an uncanny ability to emulate humans when they are singing. You wouldn’t know this if you’ve never heard a goat sing. Like I said, goats are most comfortable in Hell. They are also most comfortable singing in the Netherworld, too. PBW not only has won the majority of vocal performance awards but also has teaches performance at the Hadean Institute of Fine Arts and Automobile Repair. PBW also runs a day spa on the side for extra cash. It was at the day spa where I met this fine goat named PBW. I was getting a massage when he started singing to me. I’d never been so enamored by music before. After an amazing massage her gave me an autographed version of the picture above and I bought a boxed set of his most famous performances from Amazon. Now that you know, I hope PBW brings you as much joy as he brings me.
Hi Christopher,
My general reaction to the image and audio selected are I thought it was a cute picture of a pet goat along side with its owner. It looks like the image took place in the olden days, maybe like 1920’s or so. Just basing it on his clothing style and the image being black and white. But then after reading the image title “Severed goat head hung…”, I wanted to take a closer look at your image to make sure it was not a real severed goat head. Gave me a scare there for a second. Thinking it might have a darker meaning to the image. Listening to the audio you selected made me feel like I was at a happy opera. After reading about your post, it made perfect sense on why you chose the opera audio. I have always seen videos of goats screaming like a human, but never knew they performed in operas.
When it is viewed separately, the meaning of the image looks like a normal picture of a man with his pet goat. Or a mysterious picture of a man with a random goat he came across since I do not think goats were a common household pet. Listening to the audio separately, it makes is seem like I am listening to a happy story. Especially hearing the instrumentals reminds me of happy scenes in a movies or TV shows. When it is combined together, it enhances the meaning of the image. The picture looks like a happy moment for PBW and Henderson. But with the audio playing too, it makes the image feel like they are at an opera enjoying an intermission.
Some other audio choices that might create an interesting meaning when combined with the image would be some Jazz music. I was thinking of keeping the feel of the 1920s and Jazz seems to be a popular genre during that time period. Never expected a goat to be at a Jazz club, but it might be something fun and unexpected to see in real life. Maybe the goat can try to do some scat singing too.
Under your audio, when I click the link Alvedra, McColl, Levine, it brought me to the website fine, but I was not able to push play to listen to the audio. I wonder if it is the website is having issues playing it or something wrong with my computer. On your blog post, the audio plays fine, but I guess I am just having technical issues on my end.
