Hello Everyone!
My name is Kayla Murray I was born and raised in Florida! I have worked in libraries in different capacities for around 8 years but I still have much to learn! I am looking forward to learning in this class more about audio editing since I am not as familar with that.
I am aiming to graduate this semester (if all things go as planned) and am equally giddy and terrified about where the next stage of my life will take me, but that is indeed how life is!

My hobbies are trying different ethnic foods and fawning over my two roborovski hamsters, Sherlock and Watson. Being a hamster mom I regale my co-workers with stories and pictures of my two babies. Since I can not miss an opportunity to share their cuteness see below.

I taught myself to sew about 5 years ago through Choly Knight’s blog where she has a slew of free patterns (primarily nerdy stuffed animals) with tips and tricks.
I love a variety of different nerd culture things including but not limited to; all things Star Wars, anime, books, and movies.
Hello fellow anime fan! What’s your favorite anime? My favorite at the moment would have to be Mob Psycho 100. I haven’t watched as much as I used to, but I do try to keep up with One Piece. I keep an ear out on Demon Slayer since that’s one of the most requested books by students!
I love your hamsters’ names! Sherlock looks so cute in his little wheel! I’ve never owned a hamster but my sister did have parakeets. We were fortunate that my cat at the time (a gray tabby named Fifi) had grown up with the parakeets, so she never saw them as prey. In fact, she was happy just to sit by their cage! It was very sweet.
I am insanely impressed that you can sew and that you are self-taught! My mother tried to instill those lessons into me, but I didn’t have the patience at the time to commit to the skill. Now I wish I did! Choly Knight’s blog looks like a lot of fun plus I see a very fun Bulbasaur pattern that I would be willing to commission!
My favorite animes are Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Baccano, and Fruits Basket. I have watched Demon Slayer, it is darker. I thik I like the second season better than the first?
Thank you! I defintely wasn’t great at first but it is nice to see how I’ve improved. Know that it is never too late to learn!
Hi Kayla! I just started working with the FSU STEM Libraries as a Graduate Assistant. So I find it very interesting that you have worked in the library system for 8 years. This is my first time working in one and I’ve already learned so much in the first 20 days. I really enjoy the atmosphere and the energy of the coworkers because everyone is so kind.
I also love trying different foods. However, Tallahassee does not have as large of a variety as other places so I haven’t tried many new things here. What’s the most adventurous food you’ve tried? Mine would have to be pig ear. My grandparents are from the South so it’s a southern meal they used to have during their childhood.
I’m not really a big fan of animals. So I’ve only had fish growing up and one time a parakeet that I vaguely remember. Your hamsters are very cute though. Also, your names for them are even cuter. You choose such a great duo name.
It was nice reading your bio 🙂
I am so glad that your co-workers are kind. I am lucky that mine are as well. I think libraries tend to draw similar people (but also drastically different.)
I did try escargot, it was good but I don’t think I would eat it again! I have not tried pig ear.
Thank you Cameron!
Nice to meet you, Kayla!
My grandmother taught me to sew when I was a little girl. She was a professional seamstress, and her daughters were never interested in learning. I want to thank you for sharing the link for Choly Knight’s blog. Those patterns are adorable! I still have my grandmother’s old sewing machine and have been wanting to teach my daughters how to sew. And they have been wanting to teach me about Anime! This looks like a good way to do both.
Sherlock is a cutie. I can appreciate why you are such a proud mom. How did you decide that this specific breed of hamster as a pet? Did you have hamsters growing up?
Hi Amy!
I am so glad you like the patterns, I am a big fan of hers. I am so glad that you can use these with your daughters!
Thank you! It was actually an impulse buy, sort of?
While showing my mother kittens she said “maybe you want these hamsters instead they are so cute.” A week or so later I wound up getting them. I haven’t had a hamster before (though I did have gerbils as a kid). I was originally only going to buy one, but my mother was worried that they would be lonely.
Fun Fact.
This breed isn’t suggested for new owners. They are very anxious babies.
And. They can get territorial. So they had to be separated because they were fighting.
I did a lot of research the night after I got them. (Ideally you do this beforehand). Got them each a larger enclosure.
But I’m still glad I got them, they bring me a lot of joy each day.
