I took this photo during a quiet visit to a cemetery in upstate New York, and I wanted the crop to highlight a reflective moment rather than the entire landscape. In the original image, the subject felt a little lost in the wide scene. Cropping the photo allowed me to shift the focus by placing the subject off center and adjusting the frame for better balance. The final image feels calmer and more intentional, using simple composition choices, such as the rule of thirds and reduced visual distractions, to draw attention to the mood of the moment.
I think you did a splendid job cropping your photograph, Jennifer! I really enjoy how you reduced the amount of sky in the background. It creates a striking juxtaposition between the forest in the background, almost bathed in gold by the setting sun, and the foreground, which is rendered in a more solemn, desaturated green. This contrast creates an almost colliding moment near the center of the image, where warm yellow tones meet muted greens, reinforcing the photograph’s reflective mood. Beautiful picture, Jennifer! And wonderful cropping of the image!
The way you cropped your original picture was very well done! It absolutely creates focus and turns a regular picture into an emotional moment. I agree with Ana’s comment that the cropping creates more of a contrast between the trees and the cemetery that I find beautiful. I was just at a funeral this weekend and your cropped picture does a wonderful job of invoking the solemn feeling you have when visiting a cemetery while the world just outside the gates shines on.
Hi Jennifer! I think you did a great job cropping the original image and it really focused on the beautiful view and the colors in the background. Even though it was taken at a cemetery, the background of the cropped image helps lift the mood of the setting from the viewers perspective. Overall, the original image looked great, and the cropping helped changed the meaning from the original. Great job!
