It’s Not Just Worry

“It’s Not Just Worry” by Tracey Evans, was created using Clipchamp, exported as 1080p mp4 file to YouTube, and embedded. Licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 DEED.

Synopsis: From a first-person perspective, the main character is describing in detail what anxiety feels like to a person who lives with it as a mental illness, the physical and emotional symptoms, and what types of behavior can stem from having anxiety.

Creation: Images were gathered from Flickr and Pexel, audio was taken from Freesound, and voice narration was personally recorded via Audacity. I used ClipChamp to put the pieces of the video – audio, voiceover, and images – together, BeFunky to edit images, and Audacity for the voice recording.

About the Story

On its second-to-last voyage, in 1867, the Atlantic Steamer was saved by an unexpected crewman and his sauerkraut. This story is a true tale that has been passed down to me, as my ancestors survived what could have been a horrendous maritime disaster if it hadn’t been for a quick-thinking cook.

The Process

Photos were edited in Photoshop and exported as PNG files, then imported into a Canva presentation. Slides and assets were duplicated and objects were moved slightly in each slide to create the effect of animation. Text was added to sections to follow the narration to give the impression that this is a non-fiction storybook, and also accessible. Photos were edited with filters to give similar continuity throughout, and the slide durations were adjusted to match the length of the narration. Finally, the project was exported from Canva and imported into GarageBand to record the narration and balance audio.

An Immigrant’s View

“An Immigrant’s View” is the story of both the history of immigration to NYC and the story of a modern day immigrant coming to NYC for the first time. I was inspired to make this video after taking a walking tour in New York City during a trip last year, where the tour guide explained the different types of people that had settled in the different boroughs. Immigration is a controversial issue in the US as well, so I wanted to explore what becoming an American might look like to someone on the outside.

For the assets, I used a variety of media to convey history such as orginial photos from The Library of Congress of immigrants arriving to Ellis Island. In the depiction of a modern day immigrant and the sounds and feel of NYC, I used photos, video, music, sound effects, and narration to tell the story from a variety of creative commons sites.

I created the video using DaVinci Resolve software, mixed the audio and recorded the narration through Audacity, and created the title and credits slide through Canva.

The Adventures of Ellie the Turtle

This story is about a baby leatherback turtle, found and named by a little boy called Jevan, while on a family vacation. Jevan shows the tour guide his discovery and the turtle is tagged and set free into the ocean and returns to look for Jevan a year later on her journey back to where she was born so she could lay her eggs.

The majority of these pictures were taken by me on our family vacation. I used iMovie to create the video and edited the audio both in iMovie and in the VoiceMemo app on my laptop. iMovie is where most of the audio editing was done though like raising the volume of the narration and fading the background music at the end etc.

Olympic History

Erin Jackson is a speed skater from Ocala, Florida. She started roller skating at a young age and began speed skating shortly after. She is competitive in inline speed skating, roller derby, and speed skating. My family owns a roller-skating rink in Tallahassee, Florida and we have been very active in the speed skating community for over 20 years. My children, as well as my niece and nephews all speed skated competitively at the National level. I have made many friends over the years in the speed skating community, including Olympians and their coach, Renee Hildebrand. Erin’s story is a compelling one. I hope that all agree! Let’s Go Team USA!

“Olympic History” was created by LaSandra Barnhill using DaVinci Resolve 18. Credits and Title Page created with Canva.

This video was created in Davinci Resolve 18 to create the MP4 video. The narration is done by me. The audio was recorded on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and uploaded to Audacity. I also used Canva to create the credits and the title screen. All of the software speaks to Davinci very well if in MP3 or MP4 format. Additional soundbites with creative commons licensure were uploaded directly to Davinci. I liked the layering feature in Davinci. It allows for multiple sources to be split and moved around prior to the final rendering to MP4.
