Hi everyone! My name is Hannah Paul. I currently live in Orlando, Florida, about 15 minutes from Disney World, when I-4 is not being evil. So on a regular day it is about a 30 minute drive for me to get to the theme parks when I want to hang out there on the weekends or after work.
I currently work at Dr. Phillips High School teaching 10th grade English. This is my 7th year of teaching, although my first in 10th grade. I spent the last 6 years teaching 9th graders, so there were parts of my job I felt like I was learning to do all over again with new benchmarks and new content.
To relax I like to spend my time petting my cat, Benvolio, and watching reality TV. (Anybody else excited for the new season of Vanderpump Rules?) Even though high school starts early, I like to wake up with enough time to read and enjoy my coffee, giving me a solid moment of peace before the insanity of the teaching day. I predominantly enjoy fantasy and science-fiction books, but I also do not hesitate to pick up just about any book that sounds good to me. I am currently reading a suspense novel.
I began the Master of Science in Information program here at FSU last summer and this is my second round at FSU. I graduated in 2015 with a BA in English Creative Writing. I am taking this course, because I want to expand my digital media skills. My eventual goal is to transition out of the classroom into a media specialist position, before moving out of the public school system into a librarian position.
Hi Hannah, it must be so fun to live near “The Happiest Place on Earth” I am really curious how you control yourself from going to Disneyland every day! I would like to know how to wake up super early in the morning because I am always running late for college or work! I would also suggest you try book “A Brief History of Time” by Stephen Hawking it a good book as you like sci-fi books. It’s an interesting book about how time works.
Hey Hannah,
Orlando in the house! And we are practically neighbors. I myself don’t frequent Dr. Phillips but I know a few people who went to high school there. I admire you for getting up early to start your day off reading. I try to read before bed, but I usually only get a few pages in before dozing off (haha), maybe I should try to start in the morning like you do. A science fiction story that has always stuck with me is *The Time Machine* by H.G. Wells. I also have *The War of the Worlds,* I just haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. What kind of literature do you study with your students? Do you study the classics or more contemporary tales?
Hi, Hannah! I enjoyed the title you gave your blog post. A lot of my family grew up in Orlando and both of my uncles attended Dr. Phillips high school, which is so interesting! Although having spent time in Orlando, I can share your opinion on I-4…and the traffic in general. However, it is nice to be so close to all the popular theme parks. I love your picture from the Lady of Lakes Renaissance Fair. I used to attend the Renaissance Fair in Gainesville, and I always really enjoyed it. Lastly, your career goals sound great and exciting, have you always had an interest in librarianship? I also come from a family full of educators, so I appreciate the work you do.
