For this assignment, I chose to rework an image I took at the Kansas City Zoo last year in the aquarium exhibit. I cropped the image to focus in on the two largest jellyfish, using the rule of thirds to draw the eye towards them as the focal point. I also darkened the image and added highlights to illuminate the the glowing details of the jellyfish. I felt the original image had too many details for one to take in, so I narrowed in the the details I wanted to be noticed.
I love to watch the jellyfish! Taking photos of them in the glass is actually really difficult. I noticed that in your original, there is a reflection from something behind you. Not only did you allow the viewer’s eye to focus on the jellyfish you chose, you also eliminated the reflection, making it a much more professional looking image.
Hi Emma, I love aquariums and aquatic animals! I agree with you and Danielle that zooming in on one area of the photo helps the eye focus and makes it less cluttered. Along with this, it also helps notice more details in the jellyfish themselves, which is really cool. You adjusting the lighting also helped a lot! It looks kind of like a magazine photo. Great job!
Hello Emma! I really enjoyed your photos of the jellyfish. I find them fascinating, and it is so cool that you were able to take such amazing pictures of them. You did a great job at cropping and editing your image. By cropping it, the image became less cluttered, and I was able to lock in and examine the jellyfish from a different perspective. This was the best way to crop the image so that the reflection of other things in the background doesn’t detract from the image’s beauty. You did a great job!
