This photo was taken while shopping at Marshalls. My daughter was so locked in on what she was watching on my friend’s cell phone that she couldn’t be bothered to notice we were ready to leave. I have always liked the reflection from the mirror in this photo but felt my friend and I didn’t really need to be in photo since we are distracting from her focus. I removed us and made her more of the focal point of the photo.
I like the cropping because in the original, your daughter is the focus and the mirror is a little bit of background noise, but in the second photo the focus is on her AND her reflection which makes for a cool picture. Also, I know she didn’t pose like this on purpose but the way the phone is hiding her eyes is funny, like she’s trying to be mysterious haha.
Savannah, this is such a cute photo! I agree on the cropping done, helping to resize the photo and make the subject much more pronounced. You didn’t mention it, but setting her a bit to the right also helped with the Rules of Thirds, where the only thing that draws the attention away from her is the actual reflection. Very cool!
Hi Savannah! That’s such a cute photo! You did a good job of keeping the spirit and meaning of the photo the same while still cropping it to make it better. By cropping down the top and side of the photo, you draw the audience’s eye towards your daughter as the main focal point, clearing out extraneous details that distract from her. I can’t imagine a better way of cropping this photo. I also love how you can see her in the mirror still; it’s a fun detail.
